Native Carbon Fibre

It is a nice knife but I would rather go either for the cheaper Sage CF S30V or with the similarly priced Caly 3 CF ZDP-189, in my opinion they both use better steels than the VG-10 used in the Native, and they offer a better grip because of the thumb ramp.
Here is a picture with the 3 side by side:

if you like the native, and you like carbon fiber, and you like that blade shape then 140 to 160 depending on the site seems reasonable to me.

the fit and finish on the carbon fiber spydercos is pretty sick.

I keep coming back to the Caly 3 CF over the Native. It's smoother (on my samples) and easier to open with hole being a little higher above the handle. The Sage is nice as well, but the Stretch 2 is a step up on all three. I'd like to see a 3" Stretch with the wire clip, I'd make that my EDC for work. The Caly 3 is a great alternative until that happens though...

Thanks guys. The comparison pics are great. Just getting back into Spyderco after about 18 yrs. Picked up a Rookie at a knife shop and now I want more.

I kind of like the shape of Native CF blade.

Anyway, once you pick up any one of these you will be cursed and will not be able to think about anything else and your wife will hate you:D

Caly3 CF all the way. There's nothing the CF Native can offer you that the Caly3 can't trump, and for the same cost. The Stretch, however... well, I'm waiting for the FRN version, but I can't say I haven't been tempted by the CF version recently. Let's see how long my willpower holds out!

Depends. If you are left handed, want a 3" blade, and prefer tip down carry, then it's the only choice. Otherwise, it comes down to tastes and preferences.

Sage is definitely the best value and its CF is both the most attractive and most tractive of the trio, but has a handed lock.

Caly 3 offers "better" steel and a full width spine, but has the shallowest choil and the least attractive CF.

Native IV has neither thumb ramp nor jimping on the spine, a partailly occluded Spyderhole, and that hokey looking swedge grind but, as the only one of the trio with 4 way clip mounting and a lanyard hole, it does allow maximum choice of carry methods. It also gets extra points in my book for not having a Boye dent. :D

Personally, I'd take the CF Stretch II over all of them, but it is both larger and more expensive.

Gave up on carbon fibre. The brick and mortar store I shop at wouldn't deal on the Native CF and it had play in the lock up. Decided to have a closer look at the Caly 3. Returned the Rookie (I did like the foliage green) and bought a Caly 3 in G10/VG10. Should be a good start on my Spyderco adventure.

Question .... what's the logo on the side of the blade ?

It is Sal.
Caly3 with VG10/G10 is a great choice. I love this knife. And EDC for more than two years. Still I love Native 4 and would take it over Sage or CF Caly3. All matter of personal preferences.
Enjoy your Caly3.
By the way, there are other options than "The brick and mortar store". I paid $130 for my Native and saw them go as low as $110 on the auction.

Thanks.....I see the SAL. Should make a good work knife. The last lock back I had was a Spyderco with SS handle with brass liners and 2.5 in serrated blade engraved with HOSFRITZ that I bought at a store in Buffalo. Never did know the model.

AFAIK, the CoPilot was the only model with SS handles and brass liners, and I've seen them with Hoffritz markiings, but it had a 2" blade.

CoPilot...stands to reason. I bought it back in my float flying days. Allways had it on my belt. 2in blade sounds right. Wasn't using it anymore and gave it to my son who has it stuck in a box along with a couple of dozen folders he doesn't use any more.

That's a shame... I know somebody that goes by the name "CoPilot"... he could tell you anything you want to know about them, especially how difficult it is to find a brass-linered Copilot in good shape nowadays... :)

Depending on the condition of the blade, it could be interesting (and worth) to send it in to Spyderco to let them do their magic (maybe they will charge you $20 for it, maybe not), and you could end up with a good-as-new Copilot knife that some people here would envy you to own (with me being one of them :) )

regarding the Caly3: I was playing with the G10 version when I was reading this thread, and the CF version is in the showcase right behind me. What a nice knife. I have its predecessor Calypso Jr. sprint run on the way to my as we speak.... can't wait for it :D

I waited on it for years but when it came out I did not like it.Much to thin for me after using the Golden Native for so long.
The lanyard hole being in the center of the clip on it and most of the other new models is a big turn off for me too.IMO the hole needs to be as close to the end of the scales as possible.
