I don't collect or even carry Spdyerco products much but I sure do like the Natives. A Native IV is on my short list of future purchases. I've been fortunate to pick a pair of NIB C41P Natives. These have always impressed me and continue to do so every time I pick one up.

I've seen it mentioned these are somewhat rare. How many were made?

Hard to say. However, they were a regular catalog item for four years. I'm inclined to think that, while hard to find, they're not really all that rare.

Yes, these are hard to find but worth the effort. This PE all-Stainless version of the C41's is one of my most favorite among my rotation. My carry one has been slightly modified so I have full access to the blade hole. This model is thin (no tele-print) yet extremely strong, and being a Native, somehow fits the hand like its a larger knife. The other attribute this version has is a build quality that is way up there on the Spydie scale.

I used to take the Native model totally for granted. It wasn't until I wanted to use a knife that I didn't have a lot of money invested in for a really rough house job I got over a year ago. So I went to my footlocker and found an old 440V, SE Golden CO USA Earth Native model that I had got in a trade years ago. It has set there for the longest time. So I said I won't be sad if I destroy this knife ( and I thought I was going to). BEcause this job I had was truly brutal on any knife.

Other than sharpening it frequently it performed unbelievably. I got to give credit to 440V blade steel that I still believe is better than S30V. But even the FRN handled Native was a brute of a knife to use on a brutal job. I"m still carrying it everyday and I just got through polishing, cleaning and lubricating it a couple of days ago.

I had that stainless Native that you're talking about. I even had a user of that model for a while and even though I didn't use it very long I did like the AUS-10 blade steel. I thought it was comparable to either 440C or the SAndvik steel I had in a user knife not too long ago. It wasn't nearly as good as the 440V is but darn few steels are.

But it was certainly a very respectable model and I wouldn't again mind having a user of that folder. The one I had was a combo edge and that's what I would want again. AS long as it was on the main line up it must have sold good but it's one of those elusive models that does sell good that you hear very little of. Strange :( But a very good folder
