I picked up another Native II. My first one is enroute to Brooks Burt for some customization. These are excellent knives. The AUS-10 is a very good steel. I am not sure why, but the stainless Native feels alot better than the zytel or g-10 version. Maybe because it is thinner? It also feels more secure than other stainless Spyderco's I have handled. Am I the only one that really likes this knife? I can't wait to get mine back from Brooks. I'll post pictures. I am making a gentleman's knife out of it. A decorated Native.

Your right. Thats my only real "complaint" about the Native II. I wish there was a plain edge version. The blade really isn't long enough IMO to support a partially serrated blade. But I love the knife anyway.

All right!!! Sal where , in your opinion, does AUS-10 fall in the grand scheme of knife steels? I have been very impressed with it.

So, what IS the speed of dark?

a plain edge native II, huh? well, sal, you'll have broken me as i never thought i would buy a steel model. good choice though.

Dennis - AUS-10 has very good edge retention. Not so great on the corrosion resistance. Similar to the ATS Steels.

Gotta agree with the crowd here. I was really tempted to buy one of these for a sister for Christmas but I know she doesn't like "combo" blades. I would definitely like to get one of these in 2000. Thanks for listening!

Sal, will the plain edge Native II blade be any larger?
Will it have a reversable clip?
I can't wait.
What was the reason for not having one in the first place?

RGray - Same knife, just adding a plain edge version. We didn't make one originally because we wern't sure if sales would carry it and we didn't want excess inventory.

The shape of the Native's handle gives you a very firm grip, even on smooth stainless.

BTW, the clips are already reversable, at least on the specimins I've seen, and also in Spyderco's catalog.

We did factory checkering on the early "Blackhawks". It's an individual milling process that is quite time consuming and not cost effective in volume. Better to leave that to the aftermarket people that don't have to deal with wholesale prices, etc.

Damn, damn, double damn! More money to be spent on knives!!! A plain-edged Native in SS is one that I have been waiting for, wanting it almost as much as a larger Native.

Thanks Sal.
