Ok, just got my first Native. im impressed. mine isnt stiff like some have complained of. the fit and finish is great, no sharp edges anywhere.
the wire clip is interesting. i have my concerns about its longevity but im sure spydie will stand behind it and has tested it quite a bit beforehand. nevertheless, i find it innovative and look forward to field testing it.
Vg10 is good steel although i wish it had S30V. the edge is hair popping sharp, borderline scary. its not sharper than i can get my Navigator w/ VG10 on the Sharpmaker but that is pretty sharp.
the thicker handle is nice although i hate to see the classic spydie thinness go. its not too thick though.

now for the criticism (or ways to make it better):
1. the molded handle is so rough it will take a toll on a pocket
2. the clip sits too high. pushed all the way against the pocket 3/4" of the handle end is visible. IMO this is far too much. sometimes i think i may be the only person who likes knife that rides low.
3. thats all i can think of. its a great knife.

now for my question. my knife has the numbers 138V on the blade right beside the thumbhole. is this a numbered knife or does this means something else?

You know that is why I didn't care for it as much as the Golden Native.I perfer a thiner knife.I love the CF Delica.CF S30V Native WOW!!!!

The 135 is the collector # and the V means its a veriation.Something is differant than the production models.I had a Salsa and it was right side carry only.

To address the "high ride" problem, it seems like some enterprising individual with a wire bending jig could fabricate a wire clip for the Native III that allowed a lower ride.

The stock clip mounts with the ends of the wire clip pointing upward in the pocket. It seems that by adding 1-2" of wire to each end of the wire clip, you could mount it with the ends pointing downward in the pocket and the clip bending down and over itself to secure the knive. Depending on how long the wire is, you could have the knife ride as low as you wanted.

If anyone knows more about metal that I do (i.e., most of you), feel free to shoot this idea full of holes. :)

u812, thanks for the info. is there any way to find out how this thing varies?

akjon, sounds like a good idea. unfortunately i dont know any enterprising individuals with a bending jig. ill keep my ear to the ground though.

Don't know really, the last V I had was a Jester and I could not see anything at all differant unless the pink scales was the V.
