I'm a poor bastid who can't afford the search function, so I couldn't resurrect the thread.
I've sent my native that doesn't have much blade retention to Mike at spyderco, and I just got word that mine had a back lock and they would be replacing it.
I suppose that some of you guys that have funky Native locks may have a similar problem, so just letting ya know ;)

Sorry Calyth, but your message is a bit cryptic for me. What was exactly wrong with your Native.

I carry a Native FRN as my EDC and would like to know if/when my blade starts experiencing similar problems. What symptoms should I looks for? Thanks.

Sorry I got a bit cryptic....
There was a thread called Native Lock Snap by BOK that went a couple of pages.
It seems that some of the Native are built with very little blade retention and weak springs in general. I myself have got one of those Natives, and finally sent it into Spyderco.
They did identify that it was a bad lock and they will replace it.
So that's why I'm writing this just to let others know of my experience.
FYI, my Native actually open once because the serrations on the spine caught the edge of the pocket, and the tip poked one of my fingers. It wasn't enough to draw blood but it was enough for me to be weary of it.

Thanks for the heads up. My Native FRN CPM440V doesn't seem to suffer from the problem described.

It snaps shut.

Calyth, from your experience, it sounds like you discovered the Spyderco with Wave...the hard way! ;)

My FRN one does not close properly ever, like calyth mentioned. It's not a huge problem, had mine for close to a yr now, always notice the problem, but never bothered to send it in yet.

If the knife had a bit more retention, then the blade wouldn't catch the corner and open....
It's just one of those things that bugged me enough to get it checked out.
