Native or Delica? Help me decide...

Edwint - Both of these knives are the same size in blade length. They were designed to fit two different hand types. They are both very well made. You will really need to hold both to make an effective decision. Otherwise, it's just a guess (flip a coin?).

The advantage of the Delica is many years of refinement. This model has undergone many slight modifications, and will continue to do so. It is also our most popular model. The Delica is a smaller lighter package.

The advantage of the Native is more mass (if needed). Thicker blade. The Y2k version has CPM-440V. Hope that helps.

If I had to choose only one(right now

)it would be the Delica. I have two and find them very handy. Their size and weight are perfect for daily carry.

Although I do not own one(yet

), I am a fan of the Native. The weight and blade style appear to make it a fine defensive knife.

Go Delica, then go Native!

Don't mean to muddy the waters, but I have both, have carried both (one or the other) almost exclusively for the last several years. (The Delica first, the the BF Native when it came out.) I now find myself carrying the BF Native 95% and everything else the rest.

Best Bet: Buy both as soon as you can and see which matches your hands and uses the best. LOL.

ou really should handle them both before you decide.
Me? I'm a Native man myself. I have the FRN and the SS versions and am anxiously(!) awaiting the arrival of the 440v Y2K model.
I prefer the ergos on the Native mostly. It has a good choil to keep those precious pinkies off that wicked sharp blade and the handle style just feel better in my hand.

I have both. Highly suggest the "Native."

Sal is correct - see'em, touch'em, feel'em but don't lick'em......

......then buy'em both!

Tks for the replies; will sleep on it a little to think about them.

I guess I forgot to mention tt my local store doesn't have any Natives, and appears not to have brought in any Spydercos in a while (*), so all I'm left to do is to stare at images of the knives on the net, as well as the pictures in the catalogue the kind pple at Spyderco sent me. ;P

(*) He's got Delicas w G-2 (blue & black), aluminium Crickets, Blackhawks, and what appears to be a G10 handled worker amongst others ...

Since I'm the only person in the US who doesn't like the shape of the Native, my vote goes to the Delica. I don't know what it is about the Native, but it bugs me. Sorry Spyderco.

To guy who posted a while back: Just mail order a Native and a 98 Delica. You can get both for under $90 dollars, maybe less than $80 if you look hard. Unless you are really strapped for cash just get both!
