I'm in the market for a smaller EDC knife i can take running or just carry everyday. I purchased a SOG Aegis for a first knife simply because Ive heard of SOG fixed blades in the past with my military background. Upon receiving the Aegis i realized it was too big and felt cheap. Didnt like the arc lock or the assisted opening. So i turned to spyderco. My only question now is what is better for everyday tasks in a smaller package? The native or the delica.

The FFG delica is one of the best edc knives out.

But I am also biased against the native, was never a fan of the blade shape or ergos.

They are both good knives and you cant go wrong either way. Id also recommend the Spyderco Centofante 3 or if you are looking for or considering something a little more expensive, the Spyderco Sage 1.

To me, the Native feels bigger, and looks a little more aggressive. I think the Delica is a better EDC. YMMV

If you are looking for a medium-hard use folder - the Native is a great choice.
-CPM-S30V steel
-Ergonomics on this knife were done just right
-Easy carry
-Light weight

Delica is great too
-Shorter profile
-VG-10 blade steel (easier to sharpen than S30V)

I prefer the screw construction of the Delica over the Native, just feels more solid to me. But again steel and ergos on the Native are pretty hard to beat. I have both and carry the Delica more often. Really can't go wrong with either.

I like ergos of Native much more. I use to have few Delicas and sold or trade all of them, I am not a big fan of the blade, but right now Full Flat Grind Native still in proto stage, Spyderco come out with a bunch of FFG Delicas in various color, so one of them can be interesting choice.

I bought a $40 Native from Wally World several years back - then a spare as they evaporated there. The spare is unused. The original is a heavy use EDC - sort of a 'I don't care, I have a spare!' user. I even deburred a steel hole with it - a mistake that cost a chip near the tip (You have to be dedicated to find it - but I know it's there!). Stupid move on my part - I had the 'right tool' for that just a few feet away. I've resharpened it once - touched it up once, since then - with just a basic Sharpmaker - no problems, either.

I never have had a knife that fit my medium+ hand so perfectly - and I have a few Bucks, BMs, and Kershaws. I did worry about the riveted construction - perhaps no need - that original is still 'tight'. Another plus - there on the blade: Golden CO USA EARTH! I imagine that other example is made in Japan - the VG-10 blade is, for sure. Shameless Nationalist Pride!

I prefer the Native III over both the Native and Delica as far as ergos. The Native III just seems more comfortable in the hand to me due to the handle design and I prefer the wire clip for EDC. The Delica cuts like a dream and the S30V on the Native seems to hold an edge a bit longer than the VG-10, but I tend to carry my Native III more than the others. You can't go wrong with any of them.

I will be picking up a 3rd Native III since they are discontinuing it, but am also looking at adding a flat grind Delica and the Native 4 to my collection as well.

Native or Delica?

I like the Native IV with the full flat grind the best out of the two. Only the Native IV though.

I have both a Native III and a Delica 4.

The Native gets more pocket time. I like the way the Native fits my hand, though the Delica is smaller in the pocket. This is truly a subjective difference and will vary with the individual. I know some folks that feel the exact opposite about which fits the hand better. I've never heard anyone opine that the Delica did not fit their hand. I have heard that about the Native and Native III. So it varies.

I will say that the Native LOOKS like the blade is bigger because it is wider. So if you want something less menacing to the blade challenged, I suppose the Delica is the way to go.

The FFG Delica will be a better slicer, there are more colors available, and it looks less threatening. And maybe there will be a low-cost FFG Native 4 in the future with similar colors, so you could get the Delica now and then that if it appears.

But I have both. Well, my Delica 4 was a sabre-grind that I modified to a convex and polished the clip and am going to give a mirror polish one of these days, but you get the idea.
