Native or Griptillian?

I'm looking for an EDC that can also maybe double as a deer hunting knife. These two blades look to fit the bill. The axis system on the Griptilian looks nice but I hear that spyderco makes better blades at the $50 price range. What should I get, considering price? Also if you recommend the native what model should I get and who has the best price-ebay, etc...? Thanks for any replies.

I have both and would have to vote for the Grip. It fills your hand a little better than the Native.

While a big fan of the Native, for your intended use the blade may be a little short. I'd go with the Grip.

Another vote for the Griptillian.

They are almost the perfect EDC.

My current "drooling over, gotta have" is the Ritter RSK-1 Grip'

imho: if you're gonna be skinning, might want to consider the D2 grip (about $80). i got a minigrip in D2 at cabelas (about $70). notice how easily i spend your money :D

Is the Ritter rsk-1 a griptilian model? If so, then wouldn't that be the best of both worlds, an axis system with a sv30 blade?

The Ritter is the best of both worlds. On the other hand I would not use a folding knife as my primary deer dressing knife. It is a pain to get the smell out of a folding knife once you use it on game. I would go with a hunting knife with an easy to clean handle. If you like S30V you could try the special Gerber Freeman from Cabelas. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/t...alog/item-link.jhtml_A&_DAV=search&hasJS=true

An even better choice, is the Cabelas Alaskan Guide model Vanguard. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/t...de&noImage=0&returnPage=search-results1.jhtml

Before you make a decision, get your hands one the knives and feel them out, especially the Native.

Good luck and happy hunting,
Allen.

oh yes...the doug ritter grippy is a griptilian with an s30v blade, and it has an axis lock. For me, I'm pretty sure its going to by my christmas gift for myself. Grippies are my favorite knives to give as gifts, and I given away 4, now its time to get a good one for me.

If you must have a folder than get the Grip. But I think a fixed blade would be far supperior for hunting tasks.

I agree with Dr. Thor. It's really hard to get the stink off folding knives. If you edc it, it will stink in your pocket. No one wants to edc a stinky folder ;)

Second that. Love my d2 556. Cant wait to get a d2 551.

FYI - If you use a folder for field dressing (or other similar tasks), just clean the knife later by soaking for a short while in Hydrogen Peroxide. It gets out all the blood from the hard-to-reach places. You will probably want to use a toothbrush to get the chunks, but this system works great.
