I would like to thank all of you for the tremendous amount of information that we received on the Native question. Good information. This information was combined with the rest that we obtained from dealers, account managers, etc. We had a meeting with sales, purchasing & manufacturing.

The conclusion that we reached at the end of the meeting was as follows;

We are going to make the Y2K Native in 440V only and only with the black handle. They will differ in appearance from the Gin-1 versions in the serration at the back of the spine. Smaller sharper teeth. And the steel and other info on the blade will be engraved rather than stamped. (hard to stamp this stuff).

We will rely on a stronger marketing and explanation to let the ELU (& Bruce) know that 440V is superior and why.

Thanx again for the assistance.

are they going to be made in plain edge? do any of the other native modifications look like future posibilities?

We'll use the same configurations that are currently available. Plain edge or a 30/70serrated.

It's refreshing to see a conclusion on something like this. Closure for us ELU. Thanks Sal!

Good news on the specs for next years Native, now I can plan on one to fill in for the BF Native, you know, for those non-dress occasions. My blue Native is a light duty only piece.

At least, that's my excuse.

Awww shucks...why does it seem that just when you finaly get something you've always wanted...someone comes out with a newer, better, more desireable version of the same thing. I just bought my Native. I love it and take it everywhere with me! But now, reading about this new model for 2000 makes me wish I'd waited!

Sal, something that I just thought of, that I don't remember reading in the thread on the Native. Has anyone thought of making the pivot on the y2k Native adjustable, similar to the BF Native? This new y2k Native sounds awesome, except for the fact that it will be a ltwt instead of something in G10. I realize that, with the steel change, would drive the price WAY up, and probably price it right out of the target market. However, an adjustable pivot would correct the real source of my ... discomfort in purchasing the ltwt versions of your knives.

Specific example: I had bought the ltwt Native. A friend saw it, and realized that he needed a knife (well, I guess he had realized it before that... anyway...). I LOVED the Native configuration, and encouraged him to buy one. However, he didn't like the fact that the pivot was non-adjustable, in a "plastic" handle. I assured him that my Native had stood up to some significant tasks (even more stressing on the knife as a whole than the "staple test"

), with no problem. So he bought one.

Thing is, the ltwt Native has developed a little side-to-side play, albeit very minimal, and certainly not enough to affect lock-up. But, it is more of an "I told you so" thing with my friend. I think that an adjustable pivot would help eliminate this little bit of play.

Just a thought. Since you are going to change the steel and increase the price, an adjustable pivot may help to justify the difference in price with the ... "non-initiated". Of course, that is unless that increases the cost of the knife another chunk of change, which eliminates my whole argument.....

i agree with the adjustable pivot, if it would be economical. i forgot to ask one thing before. when can we expect this? i want to get another native, but i don't know how long i can wait.

Outlaw try this. Lay the knife on its side on something hard. Hit the pin with a hammer. Fixed? If not hit it again.

Well, yeah, db. But that's a rather inelegant solution, doncha think?

To be honest, I hadn't thought of that, and if the lateral play gets to be enough that I'm worried about the lock-up, I'll probably try that. But you didn't hear me say that here...

O_D,

Ah... This may be a better solution and came from Clay at his Balisongxtreme site. Put the pivot area/pin into a vice and turn conservatively. Take out, check the play, and do it again -- conservatively -- until the play is eliminated.

Count me in,I'm a big fan of 440v and the Native. I have two BF Natives and two Liteweight Natives, this one will fit in fine.

Thanks Sing. Problem is, don't have a vice. Of course, I could probably use a friends. But, I have at least three hammers laying around...

Sal,
Any idea on what the price will be? I am looking for a new work knife. I love the Native, and would like it even better in 440v. Also, what is the projected release date of the new Native?

Thanks.
