I hope this is the right place to post this:

I bought a used Spyderco Native and I have a question about the lockback. When the knife is open, the bar on the back of the handle (the thing that you press down on to disengage the lock) sticks up about a milimeter. When closed, it is flush. Is this normal? There is a little side to side blade play, but none up and down. I'm not real knowledgable about lockback knives (I know a lot of people say that they're better that liner locks, but I've always like the way you can easily see if the liner is engaging or not.

Thanks. I don't mean to be nitpicky, the knife seems fine. I was just curious about how the lock works after long time wear.

I guess it's time to finally read the faq and learn how to post pictures,!

The lock will "seat" itself with time and use. Basically it will lock up snugger than it is now, if it's a little on the higher side. I would also recommend you clean that knife out on the area of the spine where the lock engages. Keep it free from lint, and other pocket junk that develops over time (use a toothpick). I've had a Native in my toolbox for a couple years and its ergonomics are some of the best ever designed.

This is my old native that was replaced under warranty. What you see is the results of 2 or 3 months of normal EDC use. It was never abused. I sent a link to this photo and they told me to send it in for warranty fix or replacement.

I have many other back lock Spydies and they have been perfect.
