hi guys, just ordered my 5th native as i have been collecting them for about one year now, this 5th knife is the number 3 version of the knife with the S30V and also has part serrated blade,as i have never owned a serrated blade ever!i no you can sharpen on a sharpmaker!how hard is it to do!!and why do people dislike this type of blade!thanks.

It's not that hard to sharpen...just follow the technique that is described in the SharpMaker DVD and you'll get a feel for it from there. I personally like to hold the knife on a slight angle to vertical so that the microbevel is a little shallower (I prefer this due to the edge grind being done from one side), but other than that I personally follow the instructions to the letter and they work great. You'll get a feel for it so don't worry. As to why people like serrated...I never used to but I've come around over the last few years. I still prefer a plain edge due to ease of sharpening and I also find it cuts better for most of my cutting tasks, but lately I've been pairing a smaller serrated Spydie to my main plain edge carry so that I have more options. Serrated in my experience is better at any type of cutting where sawing motions occur, such as cutting through hard plastic or any other material that is particularly rigid. Zip ties, plastic pallet straps, vehicle trim, drywall (I don't recommend drywall as it dulls the crap out of a knife fast...I set a skill saw to cut 7/8 of the way through the drywall and used my H1 DFly to take care of the rest of the 2' x 2' hole because we had nothing else near at hand...sharpened back up nicely).

I personally use a half serrated blade for my "working around the yard" blade as I find it handy for sawing through the occasional small branch or root. Other than that, I'm not partial to the serrations as I feel a good sharp plain edge gets all my normal daily cutting jobs done more or equally effectively. Ymmv.

When I really discovered how great the fully Serrated/Spyderedged Native model is I was facing a really nasty and demanding job in which I had resigned myself to believe that whatever knife I used in that job was going to be destroyed. It was a very mean job and I even destroyed a Stanley box cutting knife but the fully Serrated, 440V, Golden CO USA made Native survived and I still use that knife a lot on hard use type jobs.

I don't believe I've ever put any of my Spyders through as hard of use as I have my 440V SE Native model. The new Native 5 in full SE is high on my "gotta have" list of Spyders I intend on getting in the next two months or so.

That Spyderedge Native is truly a super rugged folding knife and I highly encourage anyone to consider having one in their survival kit, bug out bag or even as a major back up blade. And I'm still on the lookout for another 440V SE Native for my survival kit.

Not a fan of the combo edges. Just not enough serrations to work well. But a full SE is amazing. So it's either full PE or full SE for me.

My blacked out Native SE C41PSBBK is a sweetie! The Native 5 SE is on my wishlist.

hi, if i remember right! i think i saw natives for sale at amazon.com not to long ago! it was the light weight with 440 or S30V with SE for like $65.there pic.shows the older version of this knife!

I have never been much of a serrated fan but my wife found a lightweight native 5 SE at the park a couple years ago and brought it home to me, score! (She had no idea what it was) Anyways I now carry this in my back pocket everyday to work with me in addition to a larger plain edge. I find myself using it all the time, I love it!
