I got the Native SS PE from New Graham and this is definately a keeper.
It has a bit more weight in it, but thinner than the FRN model. Opens great and the steel cuts cardboard boxes cleanly and shave my arm out of the box.
It's the quality from Spyderco that we all know and love ;)
Great job!

I love my SS native(serrated)but I rounded off some of the rough parts on the handle. It pricked my hand when I handled it.

The SS model is my favorite version so far. I love the way it feels. As stated above it is thinner. Feels great. I had mine engraved by Brooks Burt. I'll try and get some pics up.

I think that the stainless Spydies have a classy look and feel to them that the FRN models don't even come close to. By comparison, the FRN models look and feel "cheap".

C'mon. You don't really think that they look and feel cheap? That's a bit harsh.

Granted, the SS are much more solid and the look of SS is amazing, especially on a Spyderco, but ... I always seem to grab one of my FRN models when I need a knife. I suppose it is more for the fact that they blend right in with my clothing rather than shouting out "KNIFE". Combine that with the grip on a FRN model to that of stainless, and there is no contest.

My FRN models say "work" to me.

Now, if we could get a stainless steel model in black that you can hang on to with ease at a reasonable price ... I'd be in line. (Sal - If you need someone to trial it, I'm your man.)

But when you factor in the conversion rate of USD$ to CDN$, I'll stick with FRN for right now.

FRN - A good knife at a fair price.

wesmalo: you got mail...
Sal: you're welcome! I always loved the design, and definately the SS makes it look classier, but it'll catch scratches. BTW when's the paramilitary, the forum Spyderhawk and the Spyderco Forum Native? My loans will be drained but at least I'll get the forum Spyderhawk!
Wesmalo is right, the SS does show up easier, and may give you a bit of a trouble if you're at places where the right to carry a utility knife isn't explicit, like Canada.
I don't think FRN makes the knife look cheap. I have a friend that have seen a couple of FRN folders from Spyderco, it isn't the FRN that impress him that much, but certainly the sharpness impressed him a lot. I think I have a convert here ;)

...Don't forget guys; I said, "BY COMPARISON, the FRN models look and feel "cheap". I didn't say that the FRN models ARE cheap.

You don't have to jump in that fast to cover you butt, glockman ;):D

I have a Native SS too. Tasteful and ergonomic. Did you notice that this is a SS model you can really hold onto? Not much slip with those wonderfully large choils...

geezer: I actually like the slightly thicker grips of the FRN Native, but I like the look and the weight of the SS Native.
Oh well, more reasons why I need to get more Natives ;)

Hey Calyth. We couldn't get anything built before April on the Forum SpyderHawk and the forum Native III.

I agree. Lots can be done to make them grip more.

But ... the FRN allows for lots of grip and a more discreet carry than does the stainless steel without having to modify. FRN is also very good for cold weather with bare hands. I use mine outside very often in bitterly cold temperatures.

I love the stainless steel Spydercos. I have a Police model that I wish I could carry more often. It would be an excellent work knife but I think that it would push the envelope a little too far.

I think the Native in SS is one of my next knives. I like the design and it looks about as tough as they can come. The Dragonfly is also a possiblity.

However, I still want a couple more of the FRN models first. The Rescue 93mm looks amazing and should be soon on its way to me.

FRN is simply more practical for me and, until the dollar improves, will substitute nicely for G10.

G-10 is the best handle material. It's nearly indestructible and feels great in the hand.

Sorry to bring up a third type of handle material!

I meant that the SS Native is the only SS model that I would trust my grip not to slide on.

I do agree that the wider FRN model feels better (as opposed to merely excellent) in the hand. It was an easy choice for me since I find that the grippier FRN chews up the edges of my pockets. Smooth stainless will let my jeans last longer.

I even find that the G-10 on the Wegner is easier on jeans than the grippier pattern on the Chinook.

Maybe its just me...

Do other forumites worry about their pants?

philthygeezer: not unless they fell off accidentally ;)
Sal: Ok I'll try to keep my money then...

I just found a great forum to hang in! I love my 2 spydercos: Delica and a brand new Native SS. How did some of you take the sharp point off the end of the handle...its a bit prickly. Also, how well does the shiny finish hold up on the SS handle? Oh yeah, one more question. My SS has an AUS-10 blade, and the FRN handle has 440V, I believe. Is there a significant difference in the 2 types of steel?

I have the planet earth model with the GIN1 blade. It is starting to develop an bit of back play in the blade but none side to side as of yet. I have had it for quite some time and have used it alot in the past. It was my edc for almost a full yr. Still occasionally drag it out though. I am looking at maybe the ss model myself. Also does anyone know how to get rid of the back play in the blade? Keep'em sharp

PS actually this is the earth model from Golden Colorado
