native v 3d native

Personally i prefer the Native.

The handle is a bit slimmer, it sits better in the pocket. The grippiness of the Native 3 is great, but the Native will definitely not slip out your hand easily.

You cant go wrong with either though. I recomend that you handle both and make up you own mind.

The 3D Native works for me, by a slight margin. I prefer beefy handles and the 3D fits that desire. The regular Native isn't shabby. I just feel a more secure grip with the 3D.

The 3D has the best ergos of any knife in the known universe IMHO. I like VG10 as it's easier to sharpen - so the 3D get's my vote.

You may prefer the regular because of it's slimness and better edge holding and smoother opening (the 3D is a tad sticky at times).

I've said many times before, I wish there was a Golden Native with VG-10 because the Native III handle just doesn't do it for me.

Does Spyderco do blade swaps? Or would the Native III blade even work in the Golden handle?

I'd go with the 3D. It's a bit bulkier but feels much more comfy in the hand. I carry it in my pocket with no problems. Secondly, I prefer the VG10 blade. Stays sharp and is easy to sharpen to a nice edge.

Both are great knifes, biggest difference is the thickness and contouring of the handle.

I carry my EDC knife loose in my back pocket. It gets sat on perhaps 95% of the time and used 5% of it. Even that 5% does not occur all at one, but rather is spread throughout the day. For that reason, between the two versions of the Native, I prefer the C41, due to its thinner handle. If I was facing a day where I knew I was going to use a knife continually for a half hour or more, then I'd go with the even more ergonomic C78.

I much preferred the S30V model, though my III was very sticky to open which may have something to do with it.

IIRC, the III seems to ride better in the pocket ie. if you are bending lots the Native I feels it is more likely to come out (deep-pocket carry please ;)). That said the smoothness of this model's opening is why I carry it. The ergonomics are not quite as good as the III but they really aren't that far off. It fits my large hands surprisingly well as the back of the handle follows the thumb and tucks under the ball. The III's blade shape just doesn't look as good either IMHO.

Both good knives but I'd try and handle them first.

The handle on the III is much more comfortable, and I think VG10 is a better steel in every catagory except for edge retention, which it doesn't trail much in.

As for it being sticky, just breaking it in and adding a drop of oil made mine open as smooth as any of my other lockbacks, which I can't say for the S30V Native i handled.
