Native Versions

I've become most attached to the Native--a remarkable knife.

However, I much, much prefer the 3 version to the current one. The more pronounced indent for the fingers seems to me to make for a much better fit.

So, just out of curiosity, does any one know why the change? What was the idea behind this, and what was the designer trying to achieve?

While I'm on changes, I'm planning to get a Stretch, which felt quite good in my hand. Are there any new versions of this in the pipeline I should be aware of?

My thanks, as always.

I am not sure what do you mean by current version. If this reference to C41, Golden made Native, than this model is older than Native3, also there are plans to evolve Golden Native to FFG Native4, hopefully it will have the same blade like 2009 Forum knife. That will be real beauty:great ergos, great blade. The only thing I will be missing is low ridding wire clip.

I have had all of the versions of the Native, except for the SS handle one. Currently, I have the 3 and CF 4. While the CF version is a lot nicer, I keep going back to the 3. I need to get a Native S30V again.

What I would really like to see is the "Chief" model that was supposedly offered a couple years ago.

I'm looking forward to the Golden, CO USA Earth Native 4 with a full flat grind. I'm not sure how soon that might be, but I'm happy knowing it is in process.

I too would like to be able to get my hands on a "Chief" model. I do believe my Native has seen more use than any of my other knives. Always up to the challenge though...

I use the 3 version, and much prefer it to the 4. It seems like the handle on the latter is straighter, without the deeper finger indents. I was wondering why the change?

Along these lines, I was just looking at my older Endura, and comparing it to pictures on commercial websites, of the version they're currently selling. Again, less of a pronounced finger indent. Is this a general move by Spyderco?

Does the CF native 4 have nearly the same ergonomics as the native 1? If so, I would be extremely happy, that knife fits my hand perfectly even though it is boxy looking. Got one coming in the next couple days, couldn't pass it up at 95 dollars.

That sounds terrific. Is such a thing possible? If so, how does one go about getting one?

Size and shape are virtually identical. CF version is thinner by about 1/16", has a smooth handle and no jimping on the spine. Blade angle is also a bit different in relation to the handle, the FRN C41's blade angles down a bit more. Don't know for sure, but imagine the FRN Native IV will follow the pattern of the "Gen 4" Delica and Endura and the Stretch II. Screw construction, nested liners, bi-dirrectional volcano grip textured handle, and 4 way clip mounting.

With the possible exception of color, I don't see any changes to the Stretch II happening this coming year. Figure they tweaked the design on the jump from the original SS/Kraton Stretch, tweaked the CF Stretch II a bit more with the change from coarse to fine jimping, which then carried over into the FRN versions. Full flat grind is popular, can't recall seeing anyone, much less a bunch of people, clamoring for a different one.
