Given that the Native II (S30v)is 20% dearer than the Native III (VG10) is S30v a 20% better steel than VG10. Given the choice which Spyderco would you buy out of the 2.

I can't speak for Spyderco, but I have not been very impressed with other makers' S30V. Perhaps mine has bad heat treatment, but the edge holding isn't impressive. I have heard many good things about VG 10, I would go with that.

I've got both of the Natives you mentioned, and the III just sits in a drawer. The II's S30V blade came with a wicked edge; while the VG10 blade's edge has never impressed me in comparison no matter how deftly I work it on the Sharpmaker. I also prefer the thinner profile of the II over the III.

I have the Spyderco Native CPMS30V blade and it has become my carry knife and my favorite. The blade just stays amazingly sharp no matter what I cut with it, tape, plastic, cardboard, rope, whatever. I have other blades that are fine 154CM, D2, etc. and like them all. But the Native S30V just is way better. Next knife I buy is gonna havta have a S30V blade also.
Cheers,
og

I love the S30V steel of Spyderco.I have both Natives and not only do I like the S30V better but I also like the shape of the scales and the clip better.
As far as Edge holding the S30V blade of my Military holds an edge better and longer than any other steel I have used.

I'm a huge fan of both steels. Both get wicked sharp and hold a great edge, very stain resistent. Can't lose with either!

I have both and like the S30V better.
S30V is my favorite stainless steel- Spyderco, Benchmade and Lone Wolf knives with S30V blades has impressed me.

The S30V version has worked well for me. No complaints...although I don't test steels either so I won't help for a comparison.

My favourite version is still the old Gin 1 model with SS clip.
