Native vs mini Grip vs Trance

OK, I had a Native and was lusting after a mini Grip. Well, for the second time in a few weeks, the Native came unclipped from my pocket and fell of and got lost. The first time, I was weed eating with my Stihl Brushcutter on a pond dam. I went and got a metal detector and found the knife.

Well, last Friday, I cut about 1/2 acre in some woods and it fell out again, to my suprise. While I can mostly see the ground, I can not find the knife. I love the knife. Even more stupid, I was horizontally carrying my new Buck 100 and it slid out. I almost lost 2 knives in one day. It's insane to carry two knives, but you all understand I'm sure. I found the 110.

Now I'm not worried as much about the mini Grip, as I really liked the Native. That said, I am considering a Native, a mini Grip, and now I've discovered what appears to be an awesome looking and built and cheaper Boker Trance. Steel type doesn't matter much, as I sharpen my knifes upon almost every use. I'm a little paranoid about S30V anyway after reading chipping problems

Cost is not the final decision maker. The Native is in the middle. I've just been suprised it has come unclipped on multiple occations.

Any thoughts? Native, Mini Grip, or Trance? Which would you get and why?

Well if you have a problem with pocket retention, both the Mini-Grip and the Trance have tighter clips, and all three are very nice knives. Personally I really like the Trance despite looking "ugly" to me and nowadays I'm not so sure why I don't like the Mini-Grip like I used to (I do like the lighter, thinner 530). I would say the Grip will definitely tear your pants up more than the others.

Mini-Grip

I've never had a Mini-Grip or Full size one slip loose, the checkering on the handle and the pocket clip together REALLY keep them set in place.

Remember , you can always take the pocket clip off and bend it a little at the elbow to make it fit tighter onto your pocket.
Same for making it not so tight.

If a velcro covered knife pouch is out of the question then I would say the mini-grip. I have a mini-grip and it holds on tight to regular jeans as well as heavier and lighter material cargo pants. I also have a Trance and while it has a strong clip, it is on the smooth steel side so it has the possibility of slipping out on thinner pant materials.

I also have a Stihl brushcutter (not the lawn weedeater kind but the kind that while cut through 1" and 2" saplings) and I've lost pagers and phone I clipped to my pockets. It must be the way you end up holding them that dislodges them. Maybe we should report this to Stihl and get them to compensate us for their design flaw! LOL

Carried a mini grip for almost 4 years... It never moved and I didn't have any problems with it tearing up my pockets. Once it was clipped into my pocket, I never worried about it going anywhere.
