I was surfing ebay just cheking up on spyderco natives, and BAM I see a native 3 C78BK (older one with wire clip if you didnt know). Of course I had to jump on the oportunity, even though I now have no money in my paypal account. So I need your opinions, was it smart buying the discontinued native 3? Or should I have just got the normal C41BK native. All replies are welcome and needed :)

Also I just learned the native 3 has a VG-10 blade, and the standard native has the CPM-S30V

The Native 3 has more than just a wire clip. The 3 can also stand for 3D, because the body is rounded rather than flat. This model is my own favorite. VG-10 may not be the latest and greatest, but it is a standard-bearer steel for Spyderco, a great performer.

You did good. :)

There is nothing wrong with VG-10. I just acquired a Spyderco Spin, a tiny knife with VG-10. I was quite surprised at the effort it took to reprofile it even with diamond stones.

I think you'll be happy with Native, I have two of them.

Native3 is a good knife. VG10 is my favorite steel, most of my EDCs have VG10 blades:easy to sharpen and getting very sharp. C41 will be discontinued soon as well. Spyderco planning to make full flat grind Native.

I got to fondle one, it felt very good in hand. I've always had praise for the lightweight S30V Native, with its small package, yet comfortable and secure grip. Well, this thing has even better grip.

Can't remember exactly, but I got the feeling it wouldn't carry IWB as nicely because of its thickness, and probably wouldn't end up kicking the other Native out of my pocket, but still a very nice knife. I've talked to several people who preferred the thicker Native, so your mileage may vary.

I always thought VG-10 was pretty good. at least on par with 154CM, possibly better, just not quite as good as S30V.

I much prefer the Native 3 over its successor. It has a better feel, and a better clip. The steel works great for everyday use.

The Native 3 is one of my favorite knives.
