I'm thinking of buying a new knife for EDC and and I have it down to these two. I don't have the opportunity to handle either of them prior to purchase and was looking for some info regarding the likes/dislikes/comparison of both. I had a Manix2 and liked it except for the grind. I carry a Benchmade 890 Torrent for work but was looking for something a little more pocket friendly when I'm not working. I usually carry a MT, but the blades sometimes leave something to be desired. Thanks in advance.

There both good knives with the native being the smaller of the two. But I like the para2 personally mainly because of the comp lock. So whatever is more your taste you really can't go wrong with either

I can only comment on comparing the 890 Torrent and the Native 5 since I dont own a Para 2, have been carrying both the 890 Torrent and the Native 5 for just under a month.
Pros of the 890: Ti torsion arm and lock. Smooth G-10. Deep pocket carry and the curve of the handle lets it sit nice and comfortable while in the pocket.
Con of the 890: Mine had issues with blade centering sine the liner was too strong, had to adjust the pivot from time to time.

Pros of the Native 5: Great ergos, leaps and bounds IMO. The bushing system and the Spydie hole is fun to play with. Grippy G-10. 4-way clip.
Con of the Native 5: Rather stiff like a small block compared to the 890 while in the pocket.

YMMV.

I have both and I have to say they are two completely different knives.

Para II: Pretty much the ultimate EDC pocket knife IMO. Light, thin, strong lock, good blade to handle ratio. It's just an all around good user and pocket friendly knife. Depending on your size requirements some feel that the Para II is too big but on the whole most will stay it's the perfect knife.

Native V: Very impressive and compact EDC knife. I waited a long time to get this knife and it did not disappoint. If you have 3" blade requirements I don't think you can go wrong with the Native V. Ergos have really been refined on this model. Blade has a lovely shape. Lock up is ambi and very confidence inspiring. It's a stout knife and little heavy for it's size but honestly the weight is negligible when compared to a larger model like the Para II.

Both knives feel very different but I think they both can perform just about any EDC task. Send me a PM if your interested in getting a Native.

I have both. The PM2 is much more enjoyable to "play" with. there are a half dozen ways to flick it open and close it. I find the s30v steel easier to sharpen and it seems to maintain edge just as well as the Native5. If you don't mind the size, I would go with PM2

Native is a lot easier to carry than the PM2
I can have it clipped and not notice it sitting down
The PM2 gets me though

Thanks for the replys. It almost sounds like I will have to get both (eventually).

I would say the Para 2, but they are sold out everywhere. Maybe you should get the Native 5 until the Para 2 is back in stock.

Don't forget blade thickness, the PM blade is thicker.
The PM is around 5/32" thick.
The N5 is around 1/8" thick.
If that is important to you.

I much prefer the compression lock to the back lock, besides that I just prefer a larger blade, with a PM2 about the smallest I normally carry.

I love my PM2. Never had a Native though, mostly because I strongly dislike back-locks.

i always carried a benchmade until i got my PM2. i have a new griptilian and a new blue sprint run tenacious and i can't seem to leave home without the PM2. it's just the perfect size for me and is so light, yet able to handle anything you throw at it. i can't imagine being disappointed with it. but everyone is different...
