Hi gang,
I have had the opportunity to have tried out all three natives. IMHO I happen to like the III the best. The slight palm swell ( ie.. thicker handle ) just fits better. By holding the knives I couldnt tell that it was any heavier than any of the others. I could tell when I had it in my hand because of the swell.
Am I the only guy that likes the III ??

The III is a great little knife. The handle is definitely an improvement, though I'm still deciding about the new thumb rest.

The original Native does have two excellent features that many knifenuts (and I'd say most people on this forum) appreciate - premium bladesteel and made in the USA. It's also been out longer, so I'd guess more people here have a Native than a Native 3-D.

I like VG-10, but I've seen things that not even a VG-10 blade can do as easily as the 440V version that I used to have.
The stainless isn't that bad, but I still missed the 440V blade.

I think the either Native or Native III are excellent candidates for a titanium handle. I would love to see that spiderweb design CNC'd out of titanium.

a Ti framelock native with the spider design on the handle! That would be an excellent knife, but probably very costly to produce too

Wife carries a 440V Native. I've been toting a Native III. Both are excellent knives.

I like the original because it is thiner.IMO the Native 3 is really a differant knife and can't really be compared to the Native.

I would say that you have a good way of looking at it there. I'd agree, they are just not the same knife.

We felt the same way and that is why it has a different SKU number.

We are making both versions because they are different enough that one really doesn't replace the other. We'll hide 'n watch to see which version is more popular in the long run.

Have an FRN S30V Native that I love, recently got to handle a Native III and will be getting one soon. My "dream" Native would retain the lockback, have titanium handles CNC'd like the Native's FRN ones, and an S30V blade profiled like the Native III's.

I've handled previous Natives, but never owned one until
the Native III PE.

Having had it for a few weeks now, it's my EDC, with seemingly
little chance of it being replaced. That's compared to other
Spydies that I have (Endura PE, 2 Delicas (PE and SE), and a Moran DP).

The thicker handle is what makes it for me. I love the
Spydie feel, thumb hole, VG10, etc. on the other knives, but
the thicker handle on the Native III is absolutely perfect.

Hey Sal - how about a knife with an Endura-length blade, with the Native III handle?

It would give you the perfect larger knife with a thicker handle,
without the weight of the Chinook.

Well I was beginning to think I was the only guy who liked the native III... Anyway It seems I am going to get one. Thats a story for another thread....

Ah, yes, but how many of you have tried the Blue BF Native with its G-10 scales and 440V blade? I am SO VERY glad that Spark talked me into buying that knife!

..I almost consider them two completely different knives. My S30V Native opens much more easily and feels nice and slender. My Native III has a higher polish to the blade, a different blade grind, a wire pocket clip and a fatter (but more comfortable) grip shape.

A Native question for the Spyderco fans:

My Native III C78PBK bears a serial number on the blade: "078V". I read or heard that the "V" suffix designates a variant. As far as I can tell, my Native III looks just like all the other ones I've seen in web photos. I'm not noticing any variation from the regular model. What gives?

Take it easy,
Bob Scott

Good question,I had a V Jester and could not see any differance at all.
