Some times when I am admiring the blade geometry of my Native (new S30V) I think "Wouldn't it be nice to have a NativeXL model?". Same blade geometry, but 1" longer and the handle scaled appropriately. I thought I would throw this out for Spyderco and users to respond.

I agree that a larger blade would be nice, but I think that the handle would need to be totally reworked if it were to be made that much larger.

While the Renegade is a neat knife, I'd like to see a flat ground large Native. Aren't there a few prototypes out there, if only in Golden, of the XL Native?

It's the Native Chief prototype. Sal has said that, once they get the Native 5 out, they'll consider making a larger version.

I clicked on this thread thinking there would be a new model announced, sadly nope.

SPyderco needs a knife to compete with the larger folders out there, ie the Espada's....I would be all over a XL version of the Native or a 5" Bladed Manix.

That is where the Bison would come in. I too would like to see a few more larger folders. There is already a ton of smaller folders for those whose needs require a smaller and legal folder. The rest of us would like another 4" blade folder. The super folders are not Spyderco's style though, it's more about ergonomic cutting tools than folding machetes.
