Last week, I purchased one of these natural color, 112 sheaths off of eBay. It arrived very light in color and with a high shiny finish. UGLY! :barf:

So, I removed the shiny finish with Acetone, applied several coats of leather oil to darken it, and now it looks great! The Buck quality was there underneath all that top coat.

With a little TLC, my $10 sheath now looks like a $15 sheath. :D

Here is my 1973 Buck 112 (that I've had since I was 12 years old) and the refinished sheath. I also replaced the Buck snap with a hand engraved, sterling silver Bohlin snap and covered the interior snap with leather.

Sometimes playing with Buck sheaths can be quite amusing.

Quite a number of years ago I picked up a 110 off ebay that was advertised as having been underwater in a flooded basement.

Got it cheap. None of you guys bid against me. It was still in a clampack and when I opened it up it reeked of mold.

So took a can of spray lysol to it. The pic above is the end result. This pic below was a shock.

It was just the front leather that the black came off of. Rest of it stayed black.
I often considered trying the lysol on some other sheaths......but not...

and the 110 cleaned up just fine..

That turned out good! You can wear that one on a black or brown belt. :D

I can see it now.... Lysol and a paper towel rubbing on black sheaths...:D

I'm going to rub the flap on my black sheath just to be different. :p :D

uh....maybe I misled y'all.... The black came off the front pocket of this sheath, but didn't come off the back or the flap.

Obviously this part of the sheath had been painted instead of dyed. Thus the lysol taking whatever it was, off.

Just no telling what process that sheath went through when it was made. Maybe they ran out of black dye in Mexico when it was assembled.

It sure smelled purty after several soakings of lysol.
