Recent posts of 'primitive' bone handles inspired me to post these examples of natural bone handles which have mellowed somewhat over their 80 or so years.

...but the maker, Ray Kirk, makes traditional knives and the bone that he used for this neck knife was found on the Cherokee Reservation in Tahlequah, OK. I've always admired the look and feel of this bone.

Here's one in elk bone by Dan Winkler (M.S.). Of course you'd have to remove the rawhide wrap to see most of the bone.

Hey SunnyD, how about a pic of that antler pipe in the background? Did you make that?

Great examples of natural bone and some very rustic knives. Thanks for sharing them. That drop point is sweet sunnyd. What are the dimensions please?

Hello there Smiling-Knife,

The blade, tip to bottom of the tang is 3.5 inches, but, the actual working edge is a fuzz over 3 inches. Overall is length is 6.75 inches.. Incidentally, it is a great belt and boot carry edc. As I have stated before in addition to edc'n a pocketknife every day I also carry a fixed blade every day for all the hard work tasks.

Hey there Wildcat,

I have made some Stag antler pipes in my day but that particular one was made by my best friend who currently lives in Atlanta whom I have known since 1969. That one is my favorite pipe bar none. It came out perfect and is from a white tail buck shot by him in north Gorgia in the late 1970's. Thanks for asking.

Nice examples of natural bone handles here...keep em comin!

I'll play, although this isn't the greatest picture -- I'll try to take a better one and post it. The knife on the bottom is a Moore Maker 4 1/2" stockman in natural bone. I think this is one of the most beautiful knives I own:
