I am looking at the Survive page and trying to deicide on color for scales. The Natural Brown Canvas picture on their page looks terrible. it looks super bright colors with lots of contrast. NOT what I want. But then I see a bunch of pictures in these threads of people with "natural canvas" GSO knives that look so nice. It has a really natural subtle tone with some variation in color but nice soft texture to it. More of sandy brown colors than the orange that you see on the Survive web page. Any idea what is up? I assume the Survive page just has a bad picture in bright light. But I would hate to be expecting the nice soft browns and get the brighter orangey colors on their web page.

This came up quite awhile ago and Ellie said since the canvas is natural, different batches turn out different shades. There's not really any control over it.

I'm in the same position as you for the same reasons. I think the light, dandy shade looks amazing with a Coyote sheath, but I strongly dislike the look of the orange-ish shade that some natural takes on.

Thanks guys. I just emailed to see if I can change my2.7 I just ordered from green canvas to natural brown. But then I went back to look at the other two knives I have in the works with them, a 6.0 and 4.7 Cru, they are both natural brown canvas as well. I guess we will see how all three come out!

The natural brown I've got looks like jj's example, minus the texturing. It does tend to darken with age and use.

Relax, scales can be changed. Once you have the steel part everything else can be modified!

I believe that black handled one is the one I just bought. Should be here Wednesday!

Yes that's yours . I really hate selling . But I went on a little spree ordered a 4.7 Cru forge Ulgy Betty , 5.1 custom spearpoint 2nd.
Please enjoy Halestorm

Don't know about natural. But black looks, IMO, great with the CruV brown cerakote.

It's not so much the true tone of the material, canvas micarta darkens from oil, dirt, and whatever else the exposed fibers on the surface absorb.

Survive's "natural canvas" looks tan when clean, and dark muddy brown when covered in mineral oil, or even oil from your hand from holding and using and sweating on the knife. Their "green canvas" ranges from very light green when clean, to very dark olive depending on what is on the handle. "Black canvas" is light grey when clean.

I absolutely would not worry about the tone of their micarta, if it's too dark you can wash it and if it's too light you can use it ;)

Yep I just washed the grime off in those pics . I had green linen that did the same once you wash them they get very light .

That's the Kydex from a Tops fire starter , the Esee fire starter works much better . But you can get a Kydex attachment from Halestorm or Chiral they both also offer a drop loop kit for the stock sheaths , which is a must have , I am running a Sagewood gear dangler on my sheath right now .

Thanks, I have a tops fire starter I can try. Never even thought of that. I have several Sagewood danglers that I love. I like the stock kydex, but always looking for attachments and mods.

Haha exactly!
I ended up switching from bone linen scales and an FDE sheath to this setup after seeing you 4.7 combo. I had a plan to bleach and dye the bone linen scales gray of denim blue, but that's a lot of work plus there's a big chance the could come out looking like crap.
The natural canvas and coyote is just clean looking. It's a nice break from the black on black that I usually do.

As others have shown and mentioned, they do have some variation. Of the three I have two reflect the more distinct lines while the 3rd was a bit more solid w/o the lines and darker. Both very nice in their own right. Suppose it comes down to sheath options and personal preference.
