Hey all,

I managed to score one of the Buffalo Horn GWs, and am figuring out what style of sheath would best fit my needs. I was leaning towards a Kydex sheath, but was wondering if there was any danger of damaging the horn.

I should mention this will be my first natural handle knife - ever. Thus, I just don't know how scratch resistant it really is. Any experiences/suggestions?

the horn is very tough and shouldn't be damaged by kydex if it fits right. i would send the knife for exact fitting as the horn is hand finished and all are a little bit different in shape.

Yeah, thought as much but I thought it wouldn't hurt to get a second opinion.

Thanks Skunk!

Pretty weak stuff, I wouldn't even use it :D

Yeah, I find deer horns that have just fallen off every year. Must be pretty weak. :p :D

Should be tough enough, but doesn't it seem like Ram's Horn should go with a leather sheath? I'm a fan of kydex as well, but it seems like the Ram's Horn GW just goes best with leather. Just my 2 cents...

Yeah I hear ya...it all comes down to personal preference.

I debated for a bit on this, and kept coming back to getting plastic. I intend for the GW to be an EDC for me, and I really like the versatility of the Okuden A-2 sheath as it can be carried discretely IWB or on the belt. I already have an Okuden A-2 on a SRKW blade (Safari Skinner), and it's one of my favorite designs. Since I work in an office environment the option of comfortable conceal-ability is my primary interest, and IMO the A-2 is almost the perfect small blade sheath in this regard.

However, my collection is overwhelmingly Kydex-heavy. I'll be getting a leather sheath (dangler) for my Battle Rat at some point...
