Natural Outlaw-E or the new Satin Jack Tac??

What with all this talk lately of snapping recon scouts and what not, I realized that I actually don't have any knives I'd consider "hard use" do it all and laugh about it later fixed blades anymore. Gave away or sold my CS trailmaster years ago, handle was too small, didn't hold a very good edge, tip seemed to bed too easily when prying, etc. Most of my other fixed blades fall into the "abusable, but not idiot proof" category that my Basic 5 filled before it was sold.

So I kinda regret selling it, and remember really loving the M-infi steel, but always wishing the blade was an inch or so longer, and the handle was a bit bigger. After looking into the available Busse's I was all set to start saving up for a 2nd hand NOe, but then I stumble onto a picture of the Satin Jack tac, and kinda fell in love with the new look, and assuming the blade is between 5.5 and 6.5 inches just the right size too.

So, does anyone know anything other than how the new Satin Jack looks? I'm pretty sure that production on them hasn't started yet, as none of my searches here or the Busse forum have turned much up. Blade length, thickness, just how tough is the new satin jack compared to the NOe? Stuff like that :D

Edit #2: Oh, and anyone know what blade finishes or micarta patterns are available? I'd really prefer the double cut and something other than basic black micarta, but only if it doesnt signifigantly add to the cost.

The Satin Jack Tac is scheduled to be one of the next releases per this thread, along with the skeleton key.

IIRC, the blade length is to be 6-6.5". I remember this pup felt great when I checked it out at Blade '03 and '04.

The blade design as shown on BADMOJO is different than the NOe, as are the handles, but the SJt should definitely be able to hold its ground in outdoor usage as well as any "tactical" usage....

The colour offerings on the blade at the base price are usually black, tan, and green. The satin is an add on. The base handle colours are black (canvas or paper) or tan, with any of the multi-coloured micartas being extra.

Don't suppose you know if there's adequate warning time before they start takin orders?? I'd really hate to miss this one just cuz I spent too much on take out pizza. :footinmou

Oh yes, there will be plenty of time. The new Satin Jack will be put up on the Busse Combat website for at least 1 month, maybe longer.

Once an order window is closed, delivery timeframes are to run 8-12 weeks after the CLOSING date.

Fear not, Jerry will let people know in advance when the SJ will be posted on the site. That will allow you to change your eating habits (1 topping vs a garbage pizza) and route those topping funds into your INFI fund. :D

a note on the basic 5 vs. satin jack - at least on the 3rd gen handled satin jacks, the satin jack had the same blade as the basic 5. the difference came in the satin jacks choil, and pommel, wich extended the entire package out about 2 inches. so what your getting by going from the basic 5 to the satin jack is basically a more spread out package (and micarta handles)

Thanks for the info ya'll. I really loved my Basic, the grip was just a bit small for me, and I wished it had a bigger choil, and a bit more blade out front for limbing and light chopping.

Are the new SJT's 1/4 or 3/16, and how blade forward is the balance, actually wondering the same thing about the balance on the E-handle NO. Just found some more pics on the Bad Mojo site from the bladeshow, the side by side pics with the SF NO make me want this one even more, since I plan to make it my regular carry whenever I'm not in town, it's about as big as I'd want unless I was planning on taking an extended wilderness trip :D

The SFNO is a great new model. To me, kinda reminiscent of the SH1 in blade config, and the SF grips are very comfortable.

Hope you can find one. Don't know if the Company Store still has or not. Worth a try.

Meant that the side by side pictures made me want the satin jack more, since if the new sfNO is roughly the size of the old E-steel heart then the satin jack is just right for edc, not so big as to draw attention or be difficult to carry, but large enough (seeing as how big the sf-NO is) that it has enough reach to do some decent chopping.

I actually don't like the new SF model, the size is okay, but the handle has too many pointy things for me

IF you intend to do some chopping, you're better off getting the SJ than you know. BECAUSE IT'LL BE CONVEX GROUND. I'm surprised no one gave you the heads up on this. ALTHOUGH there may be flat ground models sold as well, I don't know. Does anyone?

Okay, one last set of questions to make my mind up.

Is there anything that the NO should signifigantly outperform the satin jack in. Vice versa??? And for those that have handled the new SJ, how much better do you think it'll be as a slicer, being thinner than the NO??
