Found these digging in the deep recesses of the shop basement at work. Natural Arkansas stone pucks. Soft and hard black. Never seen anything like these before.
I've seen some like these around, but not many. I think it's more fashionable these days to use smaller stone pucks, but I really like the big ones. I have one from traditional woodworker that I use to hone broad axes.
I've seen the 4" carborundum pucks but never in natural Arkansas stones. Honestly I'm not a fan of pucks because the tend to dish out and aren't transferable between axes with different grind profiles once they do. But maybe the Arkansas stone will hold up better.
