Natural Sinew

First ya find a spare neighborhood cat...... oh, wait, that's classical guitar strings.

Have Cheesel save you the tendons off the back legs off one of those roadkill he claims to have hunted and make yer own......

I am going elk hunting tomorrow and have promised Chuck Burrows the backstrap sinews if I get lucky. I guess that is better than giving away good meat...

Seriously, Chuck helped me out a lot in personal lessons on how to make something resembling a real sheath and I will be glad to donate something useful to his efforts.

Dog chew toys, it's not top quality stuff but it's cheap and convient.

Kangaroo road kills. Just pull it out of the tail. Maybe ol'Hickory knows how to get it out of Squack tails.

Here's a little how-to on using the stuff:
www.wrtcleather.com/1-ckd/tutorials/_sinew.html

Get the LONGEST stuff you can find. Follow the directions on making threads as shown in the tutorial and then - something not in the tutorial - tie two pieces together using a sheet bend or similar knot and sew from the middle out.

Make your threads up as directed and let dry - then rehydrate for use but don't over do it. Any shortcuts from the above method - will cause you all kinds of trouble - at least in my experience.

suppliers: I've bought and used sinew from all of the following - elk is nice deer is usually just too short - buffalo if you can get it is great!
www.hideandfur.com
www.matoska.com
www.crazycrow.com

Steve - hope you get lucky - my supply is running low.

Finally - working with real sinew can be a real pain, but the effort is worth it IMO especially when doing period correct pieces - of course the natives VERY early on started using white eye supplied linen and silk thread and steel needles so......

PS Dog chew toys are rawhide not sinew - totally different critters. They are also almost all made from cow rawhide and that is the hardest of the rawhides to work with.

Little Cheesel has been working his Butt off. That will probably be the only way he is going to get a deer this year, by hitting it with his truck. :D

The sinew offer will be much appreciated, but, no, you don't get to tie it on, sorry! :p :barf: :D

I've been wondering where you've been. Glad I could be wisearse enough to draw you out of hiding! :)

Roger, Yep, I probably could, but it would be kinda short, eh? IG, MISTER RASCAL, how did you know about the sinew floss?

Oops, got my leather byproducts mixed up, my mistake.

DUDE: You are suppose to eat the relish and shouldn't put it into any other orifice.

But it cleared out my sinuses so well! Sure I can't smell anything and don't have anymore nosehairs, but that's a small price to pay for clear breathing.

It's just a good thing that I'm "regular", or I'd be in a world of hurt.
