Hello again! Here's Lautaro and Mauro from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Nautical Dagger

We’re excited to share some details about the Nautical Dagger. The design is inspired by various elements of the ocean and the nautical world, with the dagger symbolizing a boat or ship.
The blade features an asymmetrical laminate with a 1095 carbon steel core. One side is 420 stainless steel, while the other alternates layers of 420 and 1095. The guard, made of 925 sterling silver, is an eight-spoked design composed of 10 soldered pieces, all mounted on a hidden bearing for smooth rotation.

The handle brings together unique materials. One side is a single piece of stabilized, blue-dyed curly mango wood, while the other features mirrored cuts of Amboyna burl sourced from Thailand. Both are mounted on a stainless steel chassis and secured with a custom stainless steel screw. The pommel and the rod supporting the piece are also crafted from stainless steel, ensuring a cohesive design.

The coral accompanying the dagger is made from cast aluminum, a process we carried out in Mauro’s backyard using a coal forge. Hydrogel spheres were used as the matrix to shape the coral. Out of seven prototypes, we selected the one that best matched the dagger and added welded sections to increase its height and provide support for the rod. Once completed, the coral was sandblasted and finished with aluminum-coat Cerakote for durability and a satin look.

The entire piece rests on a base made from Paradise root wood and black resin. This combination highlights not just the design of the dagger but also the creative process behind its making. If you’d like to know more about this piece, feel free to reach out to us at:
