Hi folks,

I m about to make a navaja for a friend here. As I m able to copy somehow one he likes from a picture, I wonder about average thickness of these blades.
The blade is just about 8´´ long and it is more of the slender style.
It shall have 3 ratchet teeth and one big for a lock.

I was thinking that 1/4´´ would be apropriate thickness, but I m having a feeling that it could be even thicker.
I m having O-1 Do you think it will be fine at about 57 HRC, or shall I go with more tough steel, I m also having equivalent of 5160 and 60 WCrV 7 in round stock?

Thanks all for the help.

Jaroslav,

The word "navaja" is spanish and literally means a folding knife, so the size and shape could be anything if you use the literal translation.

If you are referring to a knife named navaja, then we'd need a picture to know exactly what you're talking about.

it sounds like you are wanting to make some kind of fantasy knife. a traditional navaja knife with a 12 inch long blade usually won't have a blade thickness of over 1/8th of an inch.
