Hi all,

First I would like to thank all of our customers that have purchased this new model and I would like to thank Ed Schempp for his research and design.

I guess we are having some customers that have experiences breakage of the spring that makes the "noise". At this time we are studying possible causes.

I would like to say that the placement of the spring on the gear is a critical location that is placed by expert knifemakerrs. We know that misplacing the spring can cause this breakage. I would suggest that you do not remove and replace the spring.

I am also interested in your experiences with this new concept as we continue to develop.

Mr Sal sir, i have been using my Navaja for over a week and the spring is still wroking perfectly. Actually i have taken out the spring several times and placed them at different positions. Each time i placed the spring at different position, the carraca sounded different when opening and closing. I think those who have experienced broken springs have the spring placed too deep or far into the gear.
I believe that the 'hole' of the spring that the screw sits on should be made smaller, so that there will be less chance of placing it in a less desirable position.

Hi Frozy,

Thanx for the input. I tend to agree with you as to the cause. However, at this time, the hole is s small as the wire will bend.

Dear Sal.

I've had my Navaja about 2 months and the carraca was doing fine until yesterday. You have suggested in other threads that if this problem arises customers should send their Navs back to Spyderco for fixing... my question Sir is , how should international customers go about getting this issue sorted? It's obviously very impractical to try send my Nav back to Golden from South Africa (return shipping costs and having to deal with customs - possibly having to pay import again).Any suggestions for us non U.S.A buyers? Will Spyderco be able to ship replacement springs for customers to install themselves? I realise you don't suggest people trying to replace the part themselves but surely with writen instructions from Spyderco this COULD be an option for customers outside th U.S.A...

many thanks
paul
