Let's look first:

I've had the priviledge to do a couple of images for Richard Wright. Folders of this caliber simply make my head spin... This folder is an auto, and Richard has a mechanism so that both bolsters pivot to release the catch. So, it's ambidextrous. (Cool factor on pivot bolster: #10. Cool factor on AMBI pivot bolster: #12! )

He was inspired by the Navaja knives of Spain, and modeled this one to suit. I love the look. The filework on the back has a combination of rope and carved vines, and the liner filework varies in style around the entire circumference. He anodizes it with two tones of gold and blue. I've never seen any filework quite this engaging, and I've see a lot of GOOD filework!

I don't usually do a low angle shot like this next one, but this one deserved the view.

Since we're talking about his work, take a peek at the other one I did for Richard. You may have seen the write-up in Blade on this, and saw the images I submitted for it. Here is the portfolio shot I did for him and Don Guild (the proud owner), which I never posted.

I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I did. (Richard's website is amazing: www.RichardSWright.com )

Coming from you, Don, THAT'S a compliment. :) Thanks.

I failed to mention the knife is 12½" long!

Your photos always give a great look at all aspects of the knives you photgraph. You present this outstanding knife in its best light. Everyone gets to see the tiniest nuances in great detail.

Thanks Keith, for the nice compliment. I do work hard at it, and little by little I have learned some things.

This is my favorite display for a folder (have you noticed? :p ;) ). One shot of the knife in the open and obverse side, one shot of the knife closed and with the opposing side shown, and one shot of the filework. It gives a LOT of visual input in one image. All the most important facets.

A knife of this caliber really also makes ME look good. It's hard to avoid the beauty.

Lastly, an important aspect of this piece are the damascus front and rear bolsters. Rich writes that they are made from an Ithaca 10ga. shotgun barrel. The blade and delicate cross guards are from Jerry Rados (if you didn't tell already.)
