I´m posting this to try and contact the people out there that are interested in Navajas. Navajas Clásicas Españolas antiques or present days models.
I´m tired to find a lot of missleading information on this subject. I´m not a expert. I´m not a writer. Just an "aficionado" and owner of a litle knives store in Sevilla who´d like to contact others aficionados or these peoples that are a litle "lost" in his search of information about navajas.
Thanks ....

Gracias.

Hola Navaja Sevillana :)
Nice to see somebody interested in the same type of knife, and from andalucia too!
I know that here are maybe a handfull of navaja-aficionados or users, I'm definitly one of them!
I'm living in Málaga so next time when I'll come to sevilla I'll have a look in your shop! Here in Málaga I only know 3 shops that sell nice navajas, mostly Exposito and JJ Martines. One thing that I'm looking for since some time - and I can't find, is a navaja in carbon steel! I really like my
Exposito Navaja Sevillana, but I would like it even more if it would be made from carbon steel!!!
Do you know about nice navajas (quality like the exposito ones) with horn handles and carbon steel? Shure that i could find some in Albacete, but albacete is quite far away, so I would prefer here in Málaga or Sevilla.
Where is your shop in sevilla?
What kind of navajas do you sell?

Navaja Sevillana,

I have interest also. I have carried and used Navajas since I was old enough to be trusted by my father.

Let us speak of these knives.

PS I enjoyed your posting about Sevillan Steel.

To D.Bilbanito :

I´ve tried to send you an email but it was not posible. In any case Thanks about your apreciation of my "Sevillian Steel"´s opinion but it look like we are a minory ...

To the others :
I´m triying to write to you one by one.

Hasta Pronto.

Navaja Sevillana,

I don't think we are a minority, we just know our own history of our family, history and our use of the navaja. We are also not trying to make money by creating a Martial Art out of our everyday blades.

My Father always called our navajas "the Spainsh Buck knife." Maybe I should write a book titled "El Cajon Steel: The knife fighting secrets of the Californian knife"
Prior to my Father's passing I showed him a my copy of SS and he thought that it was a bunch of fiction. He asked me if the author was Spanish, which I do not know if he is or not. My Father was that way. He did not like me studying FMA because the Spanish ruled them for so many years he would call it a "defeated" way to fight. Boxing, Greco-Roman wrestling, and fencing is what he paid for me to study.

Keep the "Navaja Talk" going......

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I have read some and seen pictures of Spanish navajas but never one for real. I have relatives and acquaintances who have traveled to Spain but they have never been able to get me one, in fact I know a lady who will be in Madrid for a few days and asked me if I wanted something but I don't think that she will find one or even know to recognize it, if she was going to Albacete or Sevilla well, maybe then...

Does anyone know if there are smaller models that would be legal to carry in most places ?, like about 10 cm closed or so, I wish I could get one that I could carry and use.

You'll get them here in all sizes, from 5cm - 30cm closed.
The only thing is not to buy the cheapest one, I think you should spend at least a 30 - 40 €, that's where the Expositos starts I think, maybe the JJ Martinez a little cheaper.

If your friend is in Madrid, ask him to check "Cuchilleria Simon" there I'm shure he'll find what you're searching for!

Great to see some navaja talk! I love Spanish navajas, I own a couple I bought in Madrid on my last trip over there, and have given some to my father and brother as well.

I actually EDC a navaja from time to time, it's just a great knife! I bought mine at Cuchillería Simón in Madrid, they have some very nice ones, but they can be expensive. I saw lots of "tourist" navajas at souvenir shops but I didn't bother looking at them.

Hola,

I lived in Spain from 1976 to 1980 and got interested in the navajas de Albacete while I was there... never visited Albacete but I understand they still make decent knives there.

I have a couple of small navajas, . . one Martinez and a smaller cheap one that I bought in the Rastro in Madrid in 1978 for only 100 pesetas, it is in storage at the moment, but I will try and find it and post some pics. I think both have stainless steel blades.

Nice to hear from someome in Sevilla... not been there for seevral years.

saludos

Never too late to come back...:)

I'd like to share with you this navaja done by "el Maestro Espósito" and was engraved by "el Maestro Antonio Montejano" (although he doesn't like to be called Maestro) and he has given it to me.
I hope you like it;) .
