Naval Jelly Discoloration

I applied some naval jelly onto my khuk and, like the amateur I am, lost track of time and left it on about 10-15 minutes LONGER than directed.

Needless to say, the khuk was HEAVILY discolored when I rinsed off the stuff. I used some polish to try to remove the new "charcoal" finish on my khuk, but I've only accomplished in removing about 45% of this.

Is there any way possible to return my khuk to it's former glory? Or, to at least, remove the charcoal greyness that's been left over from my neophyte attempt?

Thanks guys!

A scotch brite pad, and then successively higher grit sandpapers will do the job. You can get the 800 and higher grit sandpapers in auto body shops like Autozone & Pep Boys. It takes time and patience, but begin with a green Scotch Brite pad and work up from there. Rub lengthwise and the finish will return.
