Well,

I was looking for a knife to fill that "Doesn't scare 'em role", first I looked at the Buck 503 and played with all kind of knifes at my store that I usually ignore.

Until I came upon the Navigator.

It is mine.

Ergonomic

Very small, but very useable.

Great for cutting tape on boxes.

Ladies say "Cute"

Guys hardly notice.

PERFECT

I think it is the ideal "minimum useful folder". Par excellence

I like this knife a lot too. Great knife for airplane travel. I have the G-10 plain edge. Great ergonomics. Feels like a smaller Calypso Jr in your hand.

Now try the Pegasus and Dragongly.
These are cool little knives too.
I have two Dragonflies. One has the BF Carbon Fiber, and the other is all stainless.
I also have two Pegasus'. One is serrated. The other is not.
They are disarming and efficient little dudes.

My Navigator (serrated/G10) has never been questioned when flying (shove a $20.00 & some singles into the clip & dump it & your keys, etc into the plastic tray)
It cuts like a champ & doesn't freak folks out- love that little knife.

I haven't been able to "reach out and touch one" is the clip removable on the model with the G-10 scales?

Another nice thing about the Navigator is that it's small enough to fit entirely within the fob pocket of a pair of blue jeans.

ah the fifth pocket.

that should be included in small knife specs- something like "fifth pocket certafied."

theres really only a few useful knives that fit this catagory, and most that spring to mind are spyderco.

Rich - Spyderco has been playing around with the "Lil Guys" for several years. There were no small knives in the market that were capable performers. The blades were thin "groomers" and the handles (such as the SAK) didn't have enough purchase to "hyperform".

We began with the CoPilot. Add the Pegasus, Dragonfly, Navigator and Cricket and you realize that we've got quite an array of small powerful knives that don't draw negative attention and most will fly.

Several years ago, a couple of writers flew to Africa with the CoPilots, dressed out all of the game with them and flew home.

They're really not small knives, they are big knives that are just "shorter at each end"

Sal,

Very good.

Thanks for making them.

Am trading my Genesis for something with a hole, I kept try ing to drop open it.

Nothing like a Spydie.

Yup,
Been eyeballin' one of them Navigator's at Ruff's and my resistance is being worn down. Spyderco makes THE best small folders IMO. I've got a Dragonfly, a Cricket and a sheepsfoot Ladybug.
Funny thing about the Ladybug, it cuts like a knife that is twice it's size.
Another funny thing, the Cricket is the knife out of all my knives that sees the most cutting action. Out of the pocket and opened in a wink, make the cut and clipped back to the pocket as easy as 1,2,3. It sees the most action because it's legal on my job. Working in QA, I open a LOT of boxes in the average work week.
Thanks David, yet another "must have" knife.

Drat! I wonder if that knife store is open now...

I have the Pegasus, Dragonfly (X2), Navigator and Co-Pilot. I love these knives and agree with Sal that they indeed perform.
I'm now considering the Toad.
Sorry Sal, all the clips from the "clipits" in my collection have been removed with the exception of the carbon fiber Dragonfly.
The altered knives have even a flatter profile and the grip is improved substantially IMO. The ONLY knife I ever lost was an Endura clipped inside my jeans pocket. I've never lost a knife that laid inside and at at the bottom of my pocket. Besides, I can feel it there.
I guess I've become the "clipit destroyer"

I picked up a Navigator about a month or so ago and it has been in my pocket ever since. Mine's serrated. I didn't know they made it in plain edge too. Guess I hafta go shopping.

My Navigator just arrived today. Great little knife.
MDP -- Thanks for getting me to take another look at the Navigator. When I first saw it in the Spyderco catalog, it didn't really catch me eye.
Sal -- Thanks for making great little knives like the Navigator (and the Cricket, Ladybug, Ladybug II, etc.) The big guys like the Military and Starmate get a lot of attention in this forum, but some of us prefer smaller knives for the mundane tasks of daily life.
