I find that the Rescue models make great general utility knives, but there are situations where I want something smaller than even my Rescue Jr. It has to be available with SpyderEdge, which rules out the Wegner Mouse.

I was leaning towards the Navigator, but am concerned about the open design, with oval holes in the scales. My pockets tend to be very "linty", and I think this knife would get gummed up in a hurry with fuzz and grit. Navigator owners, do you find this to be a problem? Any other general comments on your knife?

I may need to reconsider the Meercat, LadyBug II, and Jester. Of those, the Jester would be my second choice.

Thanks.

You can still find solid and G10 navigators.I think SFO still has some in G10 for 49.95.I dont have much problems with lint either so any of them should be ok.

You can find the G-10 ones at John F. Jensen for $45.00. I've got the plain and serrated versions...and the G-10 is great. The serrated is one of my most carried knives...in the watch pocket of my jeans. Almite or G-10...I love the ergonomics of the Navigator.

Just another vote for the G-10 Nav- I have 2 & love 'em.
Never understood why they switched to the Almite. The G-10 is much "grippier"- IMHO that's important in a smaller knife.

Hmmm...good suggestions, everybody. Now I have more things to think about.

Rugger, the Spyderco website mentions that the new Navigators have VG10 instead of GIN-1. Maybe the switch to a more expensive steel coincided with the change in scale materials. My guess is that they had a certain price point that they needed to hit and made some tradeoffs accordingly.

G-10 might be less slippery than aluminum, but with the handle design of the Navigator, I don't think slipping would be an issue.

Allen.
