Navigator Vs. Mouse

A thread on Spyderco states Navigator is very good small knife, suggesting it is as good as the mouse. Want to know opinions of fellow forumites, which they think is a better knife, thanks.

I think both knives are fine but the Mouse is more expensive because of its features. The Mouse has better blade steel ( VG-10 instead of GIN-1) and it has a sturdier frame. The Mouse also has an adjustable pivot while the Navigator does not. Overall, the Mouse is superior but then it usually costs about $30 more too.

I just picked up a Mouse 2 days ago and am now wondering how I managed this long without it. VERY cool little knife. It is small and handy yet very stout and sharp. I suspct that I could not wear it out if I tried.

The Navigator is nice, but the Mouse is IMHO the best production folder in this size range.

I dislike having to make such decisions, so I think that it's very important that we all buy both. You know... to save us all from having to make decisions that I don't like making.

I have 2 of the old G-10 Navigators- absolutely love 'em.
The Mouse is nice, but I don't feel bad about riding the Nav pretty hard. There's an invisible price point where I won't beat on a knife.

If you go on cold logic then the Navigator has to be better.

If it's an emotional purchase then the choice is a lot harder.

I have a lot of respect for the Navigator, but I think the Mouse is designed for tougher work. The Navigator is a great urban utility knife. The Mouse is the world's smallest wilderness survival knife. :)

Interesting opinions of each. Over engineered box cutters, worlds smallest survival knife... It would appear that the Nav. would be a great little knife for every day carry, as would the mouse, but the mouse would put up with more abuse because of its more robust blade. How comfortable are the cut-outs in the navigator when you have to get down to work? How durable is the almite finish? The reason all the questions, I have a co-pilot I love, but want a similar size knife to replace it with. Also I like the shape of the mouse blade, reminds me of the old hunter, or executive models.

The Mouse doesn't have a more robust blade than the Nav just a different shape. They are both VG10.

Where they differ is in the 'body'. The Mouse has twin steel liners and that makes it thicker and in theory, stronger.

In most everyday urban scenarios both knives should stand up to a lot of abuse.

The Almite finishes should be similar in both, with the Nav being a darker shade.

What's the best site to order a Wegner Mouse? Got a B-day coming up in March and want to tell my Mom what to order :D

zmac, the Mouse does not have steel liners at all. take a closer look at it and you'll see its just where the grey finish ends and the raw aluminum has been polished. I love the Mouse except I wish I could get a 4 finger hold on it like on my Navigator. The Mouse is certainly a better built knife, but the 3 finger handle keeps it from ousting my Navigator as my favorite small knife.
Navigator was $29.99 and the Mouse was $39.95, so I seriously can't pick a clear winner out of the 2.

Were did get a mouse for $39.95?

Thanks,

There was a knifedealer on ebay that was getting rid of all his Mice, he had dutch auctions for a dozen at a time until they were all gone.

I am becoming more and more of a fan of the Mouse as the days go by, now Im thinking of getting the new Blade-Tech s30v Mouse II with G-10 handles...wouldn't that make a nice pair?!

I currently own both knives in question and can say that you won't go wrong with either one IMO. They both have thick/strong blades in VG-10 and are right on target ergonomically speaking. Just get both and don't worry about it ;) .

I carry my Navigator off hand front pocket when I know I will be opening lots of boxes or cutting tiewraps at work. I like the straighter edge and the option of the 4 finger grip.

I carry the Mouse any time I need a small stout knife. Had originally bought it as my 'fly-anywhere' knife, but so much for the good old days. I still think ouncefor ounce it is one of the toughest knives I own.

As for as the Mouse II, TRUST me, you will need one of those too as soon as they start shipping. The little carbon fibre M-2 is SWEET!!!:D
