This knife is still like a sister to my Beckers. Anyway, in another thread someone posted their sheath mods, and it gave me an idea. So here's how mine turned out: The Kabar Navy MkI Bushcrafter...dangler version using climbing rated biner, kydex firesteel loop, and Gobspark Ranger firesteel with shock cord retention.

thats nice! I never liked the firesteel loops on the side, how yours is on the front is way better IMO, you have made me reconsider adding firesteels to my sheaths! thanks

Thats how it was on the Mora sheath I took it from. The catch is, it has to be put in upside down due to the placement of the male snap on the sheath. But it's NBD since its sized perfectly to the steel and the shock cord keeps it from going anywhere.

It made one of my favorite knives even better. Now I have 2 of the 5 "C's" in one place. I'll probably take the repair needle currently duct taped on the back of the Mora sheath and move it to the back of the MkI sheath. Will have to thick of anything else that might go well with it w/o getting obsessive.

You'll also note that I removed the upper strap and the plastic strap-thingie that was on the beltloop. I think 2 points of retention is plenty. This is still the best knife I never would have gotten myself had Moose not sold me on it. The BK16 is going to be awesomeness, but it's going to be difficult to give this one up as my primary belt knife.

u could take and drill another hole in the loop's Kydex, at an angle, so when u remount it the firesteel is just enuff tilted to clear the snap-stud...then u cld carry it firesteel down if u prefer. The lower mount hole would be a tad closer in towards the sheath instead of directly below the top mounting hole

Nice mods.

You should do a comparison with the MK1 once you get a BK16

How do you like the ranger firesteel? They are pretty cheap, but I don't know if they are any good.

It's a little hard to hold, but gobspark firesteels are very good ones. I like it for sheath carry though because it didn't have a big, obtrusive handle, but it has SOMETHING at least. Good for carrying on smaller knives.

Hey man, just curious, but why post this here and not in the Kabar subforum? Not trying to be rude, just seems like they could use more stuff like this over there since the Kabar forum is newer and doesn't have quite the following yet that we have here. Stuff like this would help them generate more buzz and get more people in there. Just a thought.

I will. We've just discussed it a lot here and I know a lot of Beckerheads recently bought one as a tweener bridge-gap.

Edit to add: Now up in Kabar Forum.

That outfit once again begs the question- WHEN is Kabar going to wise up and make that Kraton handled MK1 available in 440A Stainless?

It would be a no brainer for a kraton handled Mk1
