I wanted to know what knives navy seals use. Do any of yall know? I know they use the seal pup, but they have to have more than 1 knife. I did a search and got some Jiu Jitsu crap.

I think they can pick their own knives, but im not sure, I dont think they are issued the seal pup but then again im not sure on this.

A guy I work with is a SEAL and from what he said they can use pretty much what they like.

If I was a seal, I`d prolly have 2 knives. I`d have a good dive/fighter, such as a mad dog or mission, and maybe a folder or utility knife, such as a emerson folder or busse or swamp rat utility knife. I don`t know, a hog or rat would be kinda heavy. I`d prolly stick with a mission or mad dog, and an emerson to go along with. What about yall. I`ve seen alot of special forces army carrying tomahawks. Are they any good?

they use whatever they're issued, and which is cheap enough to be disposed / discarded. do a search...there's a lot of hype around these "seal knives", so you need to distill the info...

A long time ago I read a post (on rec.knives) by a SEAL saying he was issued the Sog Seal 2000. The said he didn't use it much and prefered the CS SRK, which many of the guys in his team also switched too.

From what I have seen/read on Ebay, the SEALS use cheap $5 Pakistani knockoffs. :)

I don't know, everyone seems to be so interested in what seals use, I wonder what otters use.

My wife used to work with a former SEAL. He couldnt remember what he was issued or what he even used.

I don't know how many of these discussions I've read by now, but that comment just made it all worthwhile. :)

A SEAL bud of mine carried a Randall while he served. Not taking this thread off topic but his partner and he in a security service were involved in a shootout last week with a gang of crackheads they were trying to arrest and his partner was shot in the arm, bullet entering above his wrist and exited blowing his elbow out.He had surgery twice and they got him fixed up with titanium or stainless or whatever they use now days.He has rehab to look forward to.Sorry the SEAL knife thread just made me feel the need to get that out.
I have no idea what otters use.

They use whatever they feel like buying out of the GSA catalog with thier IMPAC cards. There is no "Issue Knife" that is given to all Seals. Some get the SOG depending on what thier unit bought that quarter, some get SpecPlus, and others just carry whatever.

leatherbird,

I'm very sorry to hear about your friend's partner. I hope he makes a full and rapid recovery.

The Mission MPK12T was designed in conjunction with the SEALs (for when a non-magnetic and corrosion resistant knife is needed), but I doubt Otters have any use for these properties.

There have been companies who have made knives for all sorts of SF units that need a specific product for a certain job. They are usually in short runs and are sterile. Many times those compaines then advertise thier knife as the "Official Seal Knife", which is true in some aspects, but also leads many to believe that every Seal to graduate BUDS gets one. Not the case. I have been around Seals 2 times in my life and only really remember Benchmade autos, and a few custom fixed blades. I don't know if I can speak for what they are doing this week. They change all the time.

SOG makes a claim about usage by Seals of their knives, but I don't know. But they have some nice fixed blades. I have the 7" bladed SOG Seal 2000 and the smaller 4.75" bladed SOG Seal Pup. I'm having a combination sheath made by sheathmaker for both of them.

I am not sure what otters use, but beavers use more of a chopper style for mostly wood felling. Beaver blades are soft comparatively

Woodpeckers use light and fast style blades. Pecker blades are kinda hard.

When you compare a pecker to a beaver the differences are quite substantial. In fact when I did an edge to edge comparison, it was no contest, the pecker went into the beaver like a hot knife through butter.

As for seal knives, well, I don't think they carry any, since they never cut their way out of sharks or orcas. If they had knives they would
