Nc fixed blade carry

The law seems very odd down there I live in va so if it's a fixed blade open carry of any size and style is okay, but I read that in nc if you open carry and it basiclly scares people your screwed... But I can carry a gun with my va permit there and will have a nc permit once I move there which I know are for hand guns only but it seems ridiculous to me I open carry most of the time anyway and never get a second look well sometimes I do cuz of all my tattoos and I look like a criminal ....lol ...but any assistance would be appreciated
 
I believe you were given misleading information. Open carry of any weapon is legal in NC, because the law only bans concealed carry.

The idea that you're screwed if open carry "scares" somebody is more of a paranoid overstatement. What this refers to is "menacing" or intimidating behavior, wherein you say or do something that is reasonably perceived as threatening. This is generally confined to brandishing the knife in your hand in a threatening manner, or shouting "You suck! I'm gonna cut you!" at someone while placing your hand on the sheathed knife. Just carry alone and being otherwise polite and non-threatening is not a crime. The caveat is if there is a local city ordinance against open carry, which would generally involve you getting a written citation. But most cities don't have them.
 
Well I got most the info from random forums and several people who told me I'd have an immediate problem cuz I'm heavily tattooed....I said that's why I have a voice recorder on my phone and I'm always polite not only to the general public but officers as well if they wanna stop me and ask for my id cuz o got a glock 21 on my hip and a 8 inch fixed blade I got no problem with that....I was young and dumb a me made myself look like a criminal so I expect to be treated like 1 .....profiling sucks but it works....lol. Except for me I don't even have a parking tiicket
