I drilled one out like that and put a 1/8” mosaic pin in the corby on each side. Looked cool and lasted years and years under very hard use.

Yup, happens every now and then. Either female was drilled too deep at the factory, or the bolts are too long for the scales and you grind into the void (that's why they come in different lengths).

Make the other side match and add some sort of accent. Don't drill the male side too deep, or you will drill out the shaft.

Contact the seller. They will probably send you some new Corbys. You should use a drill bit or small rod and check the others. If all are wrong, do an Amazon return. I find the best results are when you deal with a rep on the chat. They usually just send new ones or credit you and don't want the items back.

Good ideas all. I think I will follow the advice to drill out the other side and fill the void with epoxy or brass rod. Thanks!

Drill out and fill with a copper or nickel silver pin, it will give a birds eye look

I bought some Corby's on Amazon, once. Same issue as the OP. Now I check the drilled depth with a toothpick and only buy from reputable vendors.
