If you didn't see tonights season finale episode, don't read any further.
Well, I saw the season finale of NCIS. Whoah. A good episode. Either Mark Harmon is going to play an integral role on the side lines next season, or he is quitting acting altogether. I don't know anything about the actor, but the character of Leroy Jethro Gibbs wouldn't walk away so easily. It is just a tv show though. If in fact he didn't just walk away from the show, which I don't think he did, heres my synopsis of whats going on.
He was completely ignored by the Naval commander, and the cargo ship blew up, killing the crew and the Navy SEAL team boarding it. Gibbs, burned like a carnival hot dog, probably just had had enough of being ingnored by upper echelon officials. But, the way the character is written and acted, he gave up way too easy.
So he ends up at his buddy's spot down in Mexico. He presumably killed the guy who killed his wife and daughter as evidenced by their conversation in the hospital. He's there to fish and drink beer and ogle pretty senoritas. Will he go back to his house and work on his boat some more? Probably, but that boat has been sitting there since his daughter was alive, at least.
Now, the guy has no qualms about murder of bad guys. When he was an NCIS agent, he was restrained by the rules. Now, he's a free agent. Is he the type to start his own team of old guns, ala the Wild Bunch
, to combat terrorism. Both his old boss and he were pretty mad about Bin Laden.
Why do I think this? The show is doing great in the ratings, it has more than a cult audience, it's been on Tuesdays for the past three years, and has a good cast. It's corny from time to time, but it's still very good. I am biased, it's probably the only show that I will not miss. If my idea doesn't pan out, or something like it, I still think that Mark Harmon will be a part of the show. I don't think that the guy who plays Dinozzo can carry the show as the lead.
Of course, if we get a butt shot of Ziva, I could care less about whether or not Gibbs stays on.
