Went to the diner and picked up some sandwiches .Then noticed the Walking Stick on my side mirror ! They usually show up in September , on my kitchen window ! The I went to a good place on the river to check on the wildlife while I eat breakfast. A bunch of male mergansers , then one of the eagles .No deer but of course lots of crows . Then went home - with the Walking Stick still on the mirror - I guess he enjoyed the ride , about 14 miles !!

Hi Mete! Funny story :). We have one variety of this insect (if I got you right), Bacillus rossius, rather common in spring and summer. They are quite interesting and nice to watch. Some people even breed them in terrarium as “pets” :D!

Any pic from your adventures and sightings would be nice :):p!

That was 6:30 am ,now at 3: pm he's still on the mirror .I'm not set up for photos ,if you want to post one send me you're email .

I forgot it's the start of goose season [Canada Geese ].I used to hunt from a canoe successfully unlike most. Not too difficult with two people but challenging for one .Steel shot.Watch out for houses tourists get in range .Three rounds in my Benelli .Cooking ? best cutinto 12 pieces and braised .Add some fruit to that ,tart apple or lemon or your choice. Process immediately , enjoy a good meal !
We are not on a major fly way so there aren't very many birds .I was one of the few who did this here until the local TV had a program. Angered the antis ,brought out the amateurs .It was fun but I'm not able to do it now.

The hunters and the prey --I was having my sandwich breakfast this morning over looking the river , looking for creatures .Suddenly from out of my sight was the strong HONK, HONK of the guard goose warning the others of danger !! I looked and sure enough here came the eagle looking for a meal ! He realized by the honks that he had been seen and went into the woods before trying for the geese !
Just the hunter's fate !

Just got back from a week of camping.
We like to go out late at night and look for wildlife in/around the lake (used to be Lake Sebago, but now a good bit farther west) and saw a variety of walking stick.
'Ever seen one of them things swim? If it weren't nature, you'd think a comedian choreographed it...

Cool bugs. One year we had 2 on our screened front porch. One was smaller so i assumed male and female. The sloths of the bug world.

Walking Sticks swim ?? BTW they can be found in the tropics but those are HUGE !

I remember being both fascinated and unnerved by a large Praying Mantis, as a child in southern Ontario. The Mantis was in the crotch of a building and blocked off on both sides. As I approached for closer looks it would enact a defensive posture and counter act my movements by moving its body to face me, from any angle. It's size and gestures told me to keep my distance, even as a youngster.
