Couhlan's "Handy Duct Tape". I just stumbled across this at the sporting goods store. It is duct tape that is packed flat with a peel off backing. 2 yards for $2.30. This looks like it could be really handy in that you could fit it in the narrow pouch on a knife sheath, or cut several pieces to fit whatever small container you have. I don't much like wrapping duct tape around other bits of kit as the adhesive starts to make a mess. The tape is 2" wide and comes folded down to 6". As folded, the 2 yards end up being just over an eighth of an inch thick.

I have not tried the tape yet. it feels a little thin.

Why not just make your own flat pack with the tape of your choice?

You certainly could. Like you said, that way you could choose whatever tape you wanted. Again, what I like about this is that it has a peel off backing so it isn't stuck to itself. No mess. No adhesive residue.

Interesting! When you give it a try, let us know how it works, as in "as good as?" strong enough? (sheryl crow music playing) no sticky stuff residue etc.

usually I just take a roll of ductape and stomp it flat and tie it tight with a little para cord .....But it's still a good product.

The adhesive and the fabric seem pretty strong. I'll report back after having used it a bit. Here's another option from Duck that I found online. This appears to be stuck to itself. The packet is 3.5 in. x 1.88 in. x 7/16 in and has 9ft of tape.

New rule - From now on if I buy a new survival goodie, I have to buy two so I can consume one in testing!

The Duck brand stuff is pretty good. REI carries a 2-pack of small center diameter rolls, so it's pretty compact/dense.

I take a Cricket lighter and a safety pin and wrap it with 3'-4' of duct tape with the hinge end of the safety pin hanging out for a lanyard eye. The Cricket is longer than a Bic and takes the tape better. You do need to pe precise so it doesn't have a gummy edge. The Cricket also has peizo electric ignition, and a safety intended to help child proof it, which also keeps other junk from draining the lighter.

Anybody tried the Gorilla tape?

Gorilla tape is easily the best duct tape I've used so far. Its super sticky and very strong. In comparison, the duck brand professional grade tape feels like it has the stickiness of masking tape. The one downside of gorilla tape is that it is so sticky that it may leave a lot of residue when flat packing it. Duck has a new tape called ultimate duck tape that competes directly with gorilla tape. I have not tried it yet.

I just take anything along the lines of a credit card (Old library card, spam mail with fake CC's, leftover hotel keys from vacation) and wrap duct tape around them a few times. Very compact. Used to keep some in my wallet like this, but I try to keep my wallet as flat as possible so it ended up being taken out. Give it a try if this product interests you.

I do what Vivi does with the hotel room keys. Wrap it length wise. Works great!

The gorilla tape does stick better to most surfaces, but not skin. Duct tape does better for your heel to stop blisters, etc. FYI.
