Neat Victorinox

I have always loved this knife! Really wish Victorinox would make a production version of this for a reasonable price.
I would buy one in a heartbeat!

I'll third that motion. It would be so cool to have a real traditional old timey SAK. Some nice ebony scales would be nice.
Carl.

It's a beauty, for sure.

("Beautiful" price tag as well....)

It is a pretty ridiculous price. I found it for just over $300 on Amazon but still too steep for my blood. I really like it though, maybe there's a comparable pattern around that would suffice. GEC should make this pattern :D

Funny, I was just looking at those yesterday. I would buy one in a second if it wasn't so expensive. I realize it is an LE and all, but holy cow!

I can understand their Damascus bladed LE's to be expensive and I'd love the 2010 Pioneer, but too rich for something I'd be afraid to carry and lose.

That's the most ridiculously priced knife I've seen in a long time.
Basic materials and they even made close to 2000. No way these are flying off the shelves.

it is expensive, especially in comparison to the very economical pricing of their regular line. The fleamarket in Zürich has a lot of stalls with originals, unfortunately not in ebony wood, and most with very well loved blades.
There is also a maker who still does them in a variety of scales, with a variety of tool set ups, including a sacking needle, they briefly made the knives for the swiss army in a transitional phase in the 1950s. I can't remember the name, and he's unlikely to be an authorized dealer here anyway.

I wish them all the luck in the world with this one. Remember Case will do 500 in each bone color (for a total run of 2500+) and call it a limited edition. It's all relative.

Would LOVE a GEC in this pattern! Somebody get on that!

There's quite a few posts on that knife over in the "Multi-tools & Multi-purpose Knives" forum. Nice knife but waaayyyyyy overpriced as you noted.

Well-loved blades or no, I'm still jealous. Finding an original one like that is pretty tough over here- even the well-worn one I'm watching on EBay is fifty bucks, and that's one of the only ones I've seen recently.

short update: the knifemaker name who also briefly made SAKs for the army in 1956-57 is called Röthlisberger (Roethlisberger), they still make Bauernmesser 'farmer's knives' in the style of the old Vic soldier knives, but with a bigger variety of tools and fancier handle materials. The blackforest firm 'Kneissler' was also an influence on the original Elsener, who stayed with them in his early years, you can see the similarity of their Bauernmesser models with the vic models. I hope I'm not breaking any forum rules, I should emphasize that these are small factory knife makers rather than dealers.

Good heavens!

I had thought that years of being in and around knife collecting had put me well beyond the realm of being truly shocked by a price tag. I suppose not. Beautiful knife but still...

A certain knife shop I go to has one of these, I'm sure others from the Old Line State have seen it.

Strangely enough, it hasn't sold yet .

In all seriousness, I've gotten the chance to look it over, looks like a great knife. 500 bucks though? Nope, not for a SAK. I passed up a custom Ohta Remington style lockback, that was about 500 bucks, because I can't afford it. That SAK better have CPMS35VN blades to command that price.

It wouldn't surprise me if GEC is about due for a camp knife any day. They could do that pattern a great deal of justice IMHO. Maybe a less expensive F&F model could be conjured up, who knows ?
