Neatsfoot oil ONLY?

Does anyone use ONLY a coating of Neatsfoot oil? I'm making more holsters than sheaths right now, but am still not 100% set on my finishes. I think neatsfoot oil alone should be ok, as long as you (I) like the look of it. Just checking to see if anyone else does that or if those who use it always add something after it dries, lke Neat Lac.

Thanks!

I use TanKote as a semi sealer after the Neatsfoot oil, and then I use a light coat of NeatLac, which by the way is no longer available as "NeatLac" as that was a Tandy exclusive. "Wyosheen" is, I am told, the same stuff.

Google is your friend.

I doubt I'd use the NeatLac on holsters anyway, just the TanbKote.

I also prefer neatsfoot oil and then use Tan kote. In this way I can be sure the leather was properly protection and final finish has a wonderful effect.

How do you apply the tan kote? I've used wool sheered short... not the best results... I've tried wool daubers... fuzzies everywhere... Ugh.... finishes are my hardest part.

Shearling wool skin scrap sheered relatively short in about a 1" X 2" pad. Been doing it this way for about 50 years. Don't plan to change.

I know Paul. I talked with you about this a few months ago..... I don't get the best finish trying that way... I must be doing it wrong! Do you use more than one application of the tan kote? Do you buff it out when it's dried or what?

Thanks!
