I bought http://www.kabar.com/knives/detail/30 recently treated the sheathe with neastfoot oil, i had been careful to keep the oil out of the inside of the sheathe. My question is if i did oil the inside would the neatsfoot degrade the blade? I would like to do this because , this way i can store it in the sheathe and have a layer of oil on the blade. Instead of having to store it outside the sheathe, nwhen not in use for i have been putting a light coat of militec1 on it and putting it back in the carboard sheath it shipped with per the instructions, would rather store it in the sheath if i can.

Neatsfoot oil is not harmful to metal. Indeed, it's even used in some polishes.

The 1217's blade is coated and this coating is a big help in protecting the blade. Just take it out and wipe it down with a little oil once in awhile and it'll be fine.

Here's my 30yo 1217 that has sat in it's leather sheath for months at a time.

Thank you, i think ill leave the inside unoiled, and just hit it with some militec1 now and then, the inside of the sheathe more suade dont wanna mess with that, have excess oil sitting in the sheathe overoil the blade, which may not be a problem with the leather sheathe, and this blade, just know from my katanas bad to overoil can mess with your saya.
Thank you for the reply.

It'll be best to leave the inside alone, the dry leather will help wick away moisture anyways.
