Neck knife chain idea

I came across some 4MM stainless steel curb chain today. I think this would be great for neck knife chains, seeing how it flattens out fairly well. Any other opinions out there?

I would look for something that would break if someone where trying to choke me with it. The 4mm steel chain sounds like a nice garotte to me.

EDIT- On second thought, I guess if the chain links arent soldered closed they would open up under enough pressure. I also figure the clasps would fail under hard pulling. Not a bad idea.

I was thinking about making the sheath itself as a break-away from the chain, but not too easily broken. The idea of the flatness and a bit of style is what attracts me, plus being stainless it will never corrode or stain your neck or clothing.

I have used the cat gut chain, which is break-away, but found it pulled the hair on my neck.

I went to the hardware store and got some clear tubing that fit over the chain, and solved that problem. It is slightly bulkier than just the chain itself, however.

Rip the guts out of some paracord and slide it over a ball chain only leaving the clasp opened and melt the edges around the chain. It makes it quiet, comfortable, and still able to break away if need be.

I know about the paracord, I'm just thinking of something that looked more like functional jewelry and worked well.

What is "cat gut chain"? That's a new one for me.

THAT sounds elegant. There's nothing wrong with wearing a small necker with good clothes when a bead chain or paracord would look too utilitarian. This wouldn't draw attention to the necker the way the others would.

Is this an online source? You can also get Titanium Chains.

No, its a local source, but I can get a 100 feet for the cost of one in TI, I could get about forty 30" chains out of that.

I may not be using the term for exactly what it was first used for.

I mean the cheap chain with the slip connection on one end that you get with many neck knives.

IIRC, the term was first used for the type of weight used in the bottom of curtains/drapes to keep it near the floor. It looked the same, but was of much heavier construction.

I do not know if a feline's guts actually look like that. My wife is a Vet Tech, so I will have to ask her. :D
