Neck knife irritation

Anybody ever get an irritation on the back of your neck from a neck knife with a chain? I don't usually carry one very much but I have used one for the last week and it seems to really bother my neck. I think I will try a paracord.

I carry a EKI Lagriffe w/photon micro light every day in neck carry. I have found that the bare ball chain can be annoying. I took the stands out of a length of 550 cord and put the ball chain into it. Melt the ends tight around the ball chain and you have the benefit of both the 550 and ball chain.
550 cord alone, tied in a knot can prove to be a neck hazard if it got caught on something. It is so strong that it would not likely break. Possibly hurting you.
 
Yes, I do. I hate ball chain for neck knives. I usually switch hem to paracord.
 
It mostly depends on the weight of the knife. For all but the lightest ones the ball chain isn’t really that comfortable.
 
My problem with neck knives is sometimes when I yank the knife out of the holster, the holster then pops up and smacks me in the face.

Having something around my neck that can support my weight scares me.;) If you use paracord make sure it has the ball and chain break away.:eek:
 
I use a ball chain with my Koster necker all the time..... and have used ball chains for other neckers too.... never any irritation.

Run the ball chain through a length of gutted paracord. No neck irritation & nothing that can choke you.
 
Is your ball chain stainless steel? Some chain is nickel plated which can cause irritation. McMasterCarr sells stainless ball chain.

I too have some concern about the safety of having something around my neck. I came up with a modified use of a hangman's noose (a.k.a. Chris Reeve knot) to work like a break away. I'll try to get some pictures and post them.

Good suggestion, I'm going to do that with mine, if I ever get "irritated".:D

LOL - this never happened me but I can totally see it happening. Don't get so anxious Hotswat!
 
I'm an old bar fighter and I am not going to have something tied around my neck that the other guy can drag me around by. Tie one thread from the inside of the paracord to the end of the ball chain and pull it through the sleeve. It also keeps the sheath from clicking along the chain when you are moving around.
