Neck knife: Is there a cross between these two out there?

I like the CRKT Bear Claw and the Emerson La Griffe. They are both similar in shape. The Emerson apparently lies flatter, for more discrete carry, but it does not have thumb or finger notches as does the Bear Claw. The Bear Claw has the notches, but is thicker, and apparently is noticeable under a t-shirt, say. The challenge is: Who knows of a neck knife that is shaped similarly to these (with an index finger hole), lies very flat, and is notched? Oh, and a price closer to the Bear Claw would be nice. ;)

mal. have you handled either of these? I have an Emerson La Griffe, and I can't imagine what I would need an enhanced grip for. That little knife just locks in place and my thumb can slide up over the top and never slip because the index hole keeps it motionless.

I think S&W has a Griffe clone. It may have thumb notches, and it's probably cheap as can be.

Esav, you clocked me. No I've never handled either knife. I wondered whether the lock-up when you gripped it would be sufficient with the La Griffe, but my experience with folders flavored my consideration. Since you own one, and presumably wear it from time to time, just how unnoticeable is it?
I looked for a S&W clone but I didn't see anything. Thanks for the tip, though.

Found the S&W clone. It's called the S&W HRT Badge Knife. Doesn't look bad, but the edge comes serrated only. I know this is good for cutting seat belts, etc., but not so sure with self-defense. Also found Perrin's own La Griffe for around 15/20 $ more than the Emerson. Tough choice...

Does anyone else think the "SPOT" is ugly?

Sheeesshhh, I couldn't imagine hanging that around my neck. Reminds me of that ugly Benchmade that is similar to it. Forget the name of that one already.

Personally, there are too many really neat looking neck knives out there for me to even consider that one-heheh. I'd rather carry my CRKT Stiff Kiss. To each his own I guess...

I have the S&W model & it's a great self-defense blade I think - compact and totally deadly even without training. Also less likely to get you in jail than carrying a longer blade. The handles on mine measure 7/8" thick, so it's not as flat as the Emerson, but much thinner than the bear claw. Not only does it have thumb serrations, but there is a slight hump in the blade for the thumb to rest on, making it extra secure - totally locked in. I think it costs like $25. On the down side, the sheath is total crap, and bulky. You will need to get a strip of kydex and make a new sheath for carrying under a shirt. The sheath is designed to accept a badge case & be worn around the neck on the outside of the shirt, which works for cops but would raise a few eyebrows on civilians. As for serrations, they are BETTER than a plain edge for self-defense - a much more aggressive cutter. Not that you need them considering how evilly hooked the blade is, a more pronounced curve than on the Emerson I believe. It will part flesh like butter, seriously. Order one, I think it's just what you're looking for (& you can probably grind the handles down thinner if you want to).

Hope that helps.

Oh, yeah, that SPOT is butt-ugly!!! But it looks functional.

dsvirsky, found the Perrin La Griffe at http://www.cutlerytogo.com/pergrifg10.html but note that the html content says "designed by Fred Perrin." Don't know exactly what that means...
Everyone else, thanks for the input. fishface, will look further at the S&W. Thanks for your personal evaluation.
