I'm in the market for a "neck knife".

I want a good all around fixed blade with a cutting edge 3" or less. I will use this for general tasks around my cabin (kitchen work, box cutting, cleaning small game, etc...). I've never owned a "neck knife", but I like the idea of a light small fixed blade that is quickly accessed.

I really like custom knives so I'm looking at the Strider ED Skeleton.

Before I make the plunge, I'd like to hear any educated opinions regarding this style of knife.

Thanks in advance,

Greg

Jeff Cover makes some really neat neck knives in my opinion. He makes several styles with a variety of handle materials. They all have ATS-34 Steel.

I've got a Becker Necker and I've been really happy with it. Good cutter. Only about 35 dollars.

what makes a neck knife a neck knife? You can make practically any suitable sized knife into a neck knife with the proper sheath. So IMO its not the knife as much as it is the sheath. YMMV

I can personally vouch for two custom makers: Gene Ingram and Chase Axinn. I've got knives from these two and they make EXCELLENT knives. Chase's are going to be less expensive, but he puts a GREAT knife together- far more knife than you should rightly get for his asking price. A good sheath is important, as well, and both of these gentlemen make a great sheath. Another newer maker who seems to have this stuff together is Charlie May. His neck sheaths, while leather, look VERY comfortable, and have more of a "patch knife" feel to them.

Hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Anthony
